My Sheriff does not allow any caliber less than.32ACP for CCW. I had actually inquired about 5.57 as Sportsman's Warehouse had a sale on FN Five-SeveNs some time ago, and it seemed interesting.

I've read that the 5.7 is a very high pressure cartridge, thus being extremely loud. So even if you were to miss the bad guy, the noise might help to neutralize him.

Yeah, like the home defence sawed off 12 gauge shotguns with 18 shot capacity magazine extensions. Why? After one shot in an enclosed space, everyone, including home defender, will be on the floor semiconscious ... even if the shot misses everything.

It’s funny the noise from a single 12 gauge shell will incapacitate everyone involved when a late friend of mine could fire 6 300sav shells inside a 10x20 camp and then field dress a black bear. Not saying that he didn’t have hearing damage from it he certainly did and ended up needing hearing aid the rest of his life but he was still standing and functioning after emptying a model 99 savage.

Yep, for the target below I got certified with:

Infinity .40 S&W
STI .40 S&W
HK VP 9 9mm
STI DVC Carry 9 mm
Sig P938 9mm

I had slowed down to a shot every half a second or so. The sheriff might have had a point though. The shots at the bottom edge of the big hole were from the Sig P938 at 15 yards.

Total shots were 72 rounds from first weapon and 24 rounds from each of the rest to qualify. I chose my primary competition gun, the Infinity as the first weapon. Only reason I got certified with the two .40 competition guns so I would not need to lock them up when going to the range.

Bring a .500 S&W with a ported barrel. You'll be an instant hit with the CCW class......maybe not so much with the Sheriff

I am not really a revolver guy. I do have the .44 S&W Magnum a friend gifted me a while back as he was moving to Argentina but never even fired it.

Shot plenty of M16 in the Army. Shooting one of those capguns in a small room would be no problem. Standing next to my grandson shooting station one or two at skeet is no fun at all. The blast back off by the concrete wall is not nice even wearing ear earplugs AND muffs. I cannot imagine what it would be like to shoot a twelve gauge in an enclosed room without ear protection! Stunning, literally.

PS: I legally have to stand within arms length of grandson as he still cannot get into class for his firearms possession license. Not enough instructors.

With a pump action shotgun, half the time you don't even need to fire it. That unmistakable sound of pumping a round into the chamber usually gets people's attention.

I bought a HD shotgun. I fired it one time. I feel sorry for anyone that’s down range of that thing! Especially in an enclosed area.

My outdoor range closed down at the end of 2025. I have an indoor range near where I live and it has a 100 yard indoor rifle range with 3 lanes. While the air conditioned comfort is nice, the noise is not. I use ear plugs, ear muffs and suppressors and it's still very noising. Indoor shooting is extremely loud!

The shotgun I bought is the short barrel Remington 11-87, I believe it holds 7 in the tube. If we had a home intruder I would probably grab my AR with the the laser and light on it or my Glock 10mm. I should probably sell the shotgun but I have an extremely hard time parting with any firearm anymore.

I have had the pleasure of touching off a 30-06 inside a 10 foot diameter 8 foot high steel and concrete dome, without ear protection, only doing that once.
