Dude, the carbon tax has been removed in Canada as of April 1, 2025. It's gone.

He has not refused to build a pipeline, he is actively pursuing ways to do so.

It's pretty rich that someone who flat out chooses to make up facts talks about someone else lying.

Do you just try to lie about Canada to impress or mislead your American internet friends? Or does Putin cut you a cheque each month for spreading disinformation? Or you in Canada or Arizona...because either way you seem to have lost touch with reality.

I didn't vote for the guy but I sure don't need to make up outlandish lies to criticize him.
We don’t call linemen crayon eaters for nothing. And yes, I work with linemen on a daily basis and they will be the first to agree

I see. So Trump acting, talking, and writing like a child with the IQ of lint is all just a harmless act to get attention. And everyone should learn to appreciate a clown president who treats the office like a Monty Python movie. I have heard some bizarre reasoning to explain Trump's genuinely stupid antics but that one really takes the cake. Kudos for creativity. Why hasn't Fox News picked up on that angle? Give them time. At some point Fake News Network will run out of excuses.

Or maybe it's not an act? Maybe Trump really is a poorly educated spoiled brat dimwit who never grew up. Maybe he really is a narcissistic psychopath. If it's all an act I would expect at some point a glimmer of intelligence and maturity would reveal itself. But it hasn't. When he was elected the first time I had hopes that he would grow up once he was in office and surrounded by people who can help him along the road to maturity. Qualified people who could teach him something ... anything! But anyone who tries (e.g. Rex T) gets tossed. Instead Trump prefers to surround himself with brainless arse-kissing stooges (e.g. Rudi G and Vance). Or staff with sufficient bra sizes. No, I do not believe it's all a show to drive the liberals into a frenzy. What would be the point in that? Purposely make the US government more inoperable? Throw more gas on the partisan fire? How will that help Trump's grandiose MAGA plan? A clown act is just what the US does NOT need.
OH this is American stuff that seems to have you in a tissey. We in the USA will sort through things, you can take a break. Sometimes you post pictures of guns and dogs. Most support this. I have a idea, instead on nonsensical rantings try this. If you like or agree with something post a picture of a happy dog, if things upset you then a sad dog picture would be in order. Remember no words just dog pictures. Who knows? You might even make some friends.

Thats why I didnt get it ,I dont read fiction, but thanks.
Really? That is rather sad. You have eliminated much of the finest prose ever put into the English language, a huge amount of which has taught me lessons or encouraged exploration that biography, history, or political science only suggests. For instance, I frankly can not imagine engaging the modern world without having first explored Ann Rand's "Atlas Shrugged." Or should someone wish to truly come to grips with the impact of war, how about Hemingway's "For Whom the Bell Tolls" or "Farewell to Arms." My father, an historian of some repute, always recommended Michael Shaara's Pulitzer Prize winning novel "The Killer Angels" as the best description of the Battle of Gettysburg yet written.

And another liberal heard from, with personal attacks. I know you are troubled by not being a lineman as you have said that you work with them in previous posts.

atlas shrugged should be mandatory reading in high school.

Lighten up old man it’s gotta be happy hour in AZ.

I will note this is the Economist, but assuming it is generally accurate - and other polls suggest it is - how does the ability of the administration to govern survive fall's election?

Hey! I like the Economist. A crumpled up issue, stuffed in the pocket of my carryon, or on the ground by the beach chair, are regular scenes for me. I find the articles short and fact heavy, so they make for bite sized reads to soak up some idle time. But, I take it from the post you find it to be a questionable publication? Honest question, just wondering.

Trumps “trolling” is having a real impact on Europe and Canada. This video is an interesting analysis and it reflects a growing fatigue with the current dialogue. I don’t think it about misunderstanding, or being sensitive, to Trump’s Trumpisms. I think it is a dislike of it. Accepting that the USA may not be a stable long term partner is sinking in. Our Prime Minister likes to refer to a new world order, and the version in this analysis is a version I can get behind.

It’s spelled check Frenchie!!!

This is a hypothetical, but ignore the war games scenario. What’s interesting is that this video makes an argument that the USA is exactly the wrong military to defend Greenland. If it is accurate Trump isn’t a troll, he’s a buffoon. His “trolling” must be received by educated military planners as annoying because it’s idiotic, not threatening.

If Carney keeps going, Greenland won’t matter. The BRICS+ acronym will need to be changed to BRICCS+, with Canada cozy right next to China. ;)

Yeah, I heard some positive things about his speech. I listen to it and it made me uncomfortable. He opens with taking credit for the aspects of the conservative platform he implemented. Then waxed eloquent about Canada as a post-nation state type nonsense. The Liberal party is excellent at marketing their brand as synonymous with being Canadian. People lap it up. But in the end he is reliant on foreign investment to bankroll projects that we can’t do ourselves because we have legislated and spent ourselves into dependency. Canadians fall hard on being some sort of intellectual difference maker. We have an hubris about being morally and intellectually superior. As Carney said “Canada was the First Nation to blah blah blah”. That appeals to his base. Ever since Trudeau #1 they have had this delusion, despite the fact that it is just a feel-good cover for socialist nonsense

Geez, Donald, give it up! Did I say he doesn't listen to advice? Make that doesn't listen to reality. Still whining because he didn't make the Nobel Prize short list. Sure, he somehow stopped eight world wars in the first week after taking office. Yeah, it could have happened ... while he was walking on water blindfolded. :D What a clown. Never tires of making a fool of himself.

Interesting what you can find out about Mark if you dig.....

Brookfield Asset Management (BAM) has faced serious allegations in Brazil related to human rights abuses, deforestation, and violations of anti-slavery laws.

In 2021, international NGO Global Witness accused Brookfield and its subsidiaries of deforestation and human rights violations in Brazil, including the attempted eviction of an Indigenous group and breaches of anti-slavery laws. These allegations were linked to operations in the Cerrado savanna region, where Brookfield sold farms that were reportedly associated with deforestation. While Brookfield denied the allegations, stating it “unequivocally refute the specific allegations of human rights abuses towards Indigenous tribes,” the claims raised scrutiny over its environmental and social practices.

The company has also been involved in ongoing legal and investigative scrutiny in Brazil since 2013, when a São Paulo prosecutor filed civil and criminal charges against Brookfield’s Brazilian subsidiary, Brookfield Gestao de Empreendimentos, alleging it paid bribes to secure construction permits for shopping malls. This case, which involved a former executive whistleblower, led to investigations by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the U.S. Department of Justice, though no criminal charges were ultimately brought.

While no direct lawsuit in Brazil specifically over slavery allegations is documented in the provided context, the broader allegations of environmental harm and Indigenous rights violations remain a significant point of contention, especially under the leadership of Mark Carney, who was involved with Brookfield from 2020 to 2024.

Let me start by saying I’ve never voted Liberal in my life, and I never voted for Mr. Carney.
Having said that:

1. He was hardly in a ‘leadership’ position in the Brookfield entities (of which there are many). Those of you who know the corporate world and titles will know that “Vice-Chair” is a pretty meaningless title, designed to confer status rather than power.

2. He is not great, but he is a vast improvement over his predecessor, whose name I cannot write without risking losing my dinner. And he was democratically elected in a fair and free election.

3. Among current world leaders, he apparently never visited Epstein’s island!

The uncertainty created by Trumps ever changing tariffs and general behavior also seems to create a distrust in american goverment bonds. I just read that danish pension funds are starting to exit U.S. Treasurys because of financial concerns, apparently the decision was made before the latest round of Greenland treats.

From Financial Times: “While most pension funds have a fiduciary duty to put returns over other considerations such as politics, they also prioritise managing risk and could adjust portfolios even if the decision might weigh on returns. Already last year, Denmark’s largest pension fund, PFA, cut its US Treasury holdings, apparently as part of a risk-management adjustment.”

Wonder what would happen if other EU pension funds and goverments do the same, apparently they hold about 8 trillion USD of goverment bonds. Financial Times is actually suggesting that the EU use this as leverage to get Trump to back down on Greenland:

“If Europe wants to deter Washington from a Greenland takeover, it could signal it wants government-affiliated investors such as public pension funds to review and potentially scale back US Treasuries exposure. That could create expectations of weakness in the market, spurring other asset owners to also cut holdings, pushing up long-term yields and creating contagion across other US financial markets.”

I guess the midterms would be much harder to win for the republicans if something like that would happen

Regardless what happens it seems like the transatlantic relationship is more or less gone allready and that it will be very hard to repair in a Post Trump world.

It also seems like Trump is helping China move forward on the world stage: https://edition.cnn.com/2026/01/21/china/china-davos-trump-intl-hnk
