Hi guys, I have a Red River Hog to mount & being on the poorer side only took a shoulder cape, I love the Hogs & really want it to look good as huge effort put into hunting it.

Most mounts I see of them are full mounts & honestly most look poorly done or just not right !

Unfortunately in the part of Africa I hunted the RRH it seems they don’t have the Black hood on their heads, don’t know if all the same as didn’t see a lot in the jungle & couldn’t do a study.

So if you could put a few photos of yours up I’d very appreciative ?

I don't have a Red River hog, but I do have it's cousin, the bushpig. I had a closed-mouth, right turn wall pedestal mount. Brings back memories for me.

That’s interesting, don’t see a lot of closed mouth mounts & hadn’t considered it for this mount but I did way back mount a Warthog like that, bit different as the trophy part is the Grinders on a Warthog & really the tusks aren’t that huge on Bushpig & RRH, mine weren’t too big & larger than my Bushpigs Tusks .

You took your Boar with a Bow, well done, that always adds to the hunting experience/memories to me anyway !

I've taken a few different species of hogs and a javelina and watched them a lot. Not once have I seen one with their mouths as wide open as they are depicted. So I decided a closed moth worked here. I could see it being open an couple centimeters or so to show off teeth better. That's my take.
Using a bow was a great experience, I did a lot of prep for that. Shooting in the dark has some interesting challenges to overcome like finding the peep sight. And then I had to draw on that pig three times before finally getting a shot. Watching that lighted nock head to the target like a laser beam will forever be etched in my brain.

Haha yes I’ve watch that little light leave & disappear into the animal a few times in modern times, didn’t have them back in the day, seems like a long time in flight doesn’t it ?

A bit of fluorescent paint/glow in the dark powder mixed with glue & put around the peep works, just hid the light of a flashlight in your hand to shine on it before getting ready to shoot !

On the pigs & mouths open, I have had Boars charge me mouth agape & watched two Bushpig Boars fighting crazy hard right in front of me & believe me the noise was high & both had mouths open at different stages of the fight !

Thank you for posting bud !

I’m surprised not a single RRH picture has been posted! I guess that goes to show you what a unique trophy you have.
I was really looking forward to seeing some.

Yes I’m surprised to, actually I have never seen a shoulder mounted example all have been full mounts .

I suppose the people who can normally afford to hunt them do it on a mega expensive hunt, can afford the extra expense & have the means to show them off in large trophy display areas ?

It is special to me, only a GFH which again to me is the holy grail of Pigs would be more, well maybe a Babirusa ?
