I’m traveling to Johannesburg from Newark on United. I called the airline and an agent confirmed that I could put my crossbow and arrows and broadheads in my checked luggage, with some of my clothes for added protection. The broadheads will be in their original boxes, in a separate container. Even though I got the green light, has anyone had a problem doing this?

I traveled the exact way in 2023. Crossbows were handled as oversized luggage. No issues going or coming.

Are you planning on carrying your broad heads in their original packaging or putting them in a small case, like a small Pelican?

The plan was to keep the broadheads in their original package, one in a box, and then put them in a plastic container in the suitcase with the crossbow as checked luggage.

I forgot exactly what I did. Might have packed them in crossbow case. Play it safe and contact the airline or ask your Outfitter. He should know.

Thanks. We are heading over in June and carrying our rifles. My PH did encourage me to bring my crossbow and if we are successful with our primary target animals early, we could sit over some waterholes in the afternoon with the crossbows. All of the broadheads we currently have did not come in reusable packaging and I was just wondering if they would be considered “ loose” if they were in a small case but not in original packaging.

what kind of velocity does the 140 grains list, curious how they would fit in with my current 130 gr, supply of 270s. maybe a pic of the box data listing vel. and drop. Oh and complements on that ammo belt, nice.
