Anyone been through this? How long did you have to wait before you could shoot your big bore again? Wish this was academic, but probably will have to go through this in the next 18 months or so.
I've been there and done that, while I was recupping, I spent my time wisely and planned my first safari. Your not going to be shooting anything for the first six weeks that's for sure. They want to make sure that your sternum is solid before you do too much. Six weeks after surgery the doctor gave me the ok to go to Wyoming for some turkey hunting and some trout fishing. The weather didn't cooperate so my friend and I pulled some fences, helped brand some sheep and cut and stack some firewood. I took it a little easy and played out pretty quickly but it was good therapy. It was probably 90 days or so till I was back shooting regularly again. If you have to have it done I wish you the best of luck and a speedy recovery.
You will have to take some time off for a pacemaker, probably 3 months to be truly safe. You want to make sure everything has had a time to heal. I have seen the surgery more than few times.
Having my pacemaker put in Feb 2010 was my first operation "by anyone that didn't mean me harm". Of course I woke up during it lol, heard voices, saw a diffuse light, sheet over my head, figured I wasn't dead because I didn't feel any flames. Nurse raised the sheet when I said something, her eyes got big, said I think you need a little more ...
thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
hey bob , new on here. i specifically joined to enquire about a 444 you built on a Enfield 4-1 you built . who did the barrel and what was the twist and profile specs ? look foward to your reply . cheers
