Hey all, ive stumbled across this forum a few times and decided to finally make an account. One day id like to go on an africa hunt, but im obsessed with safari rifles. Just pieces sof absolute beauty. 36 year old mechanic/union worker from pennsylvania that has been away from hunting for too long and getting back into it. I first plan to expand my hunting experience to western states here in the us in the next 2 years, then alaska and africa are on my list. I have a 7 month old baby boy that im hoping to take with me on some adventures as he gets older as well, my wife isnt much for travel that isnt in luxery resorts anymore so i dont think a hunting trip would be her cup of tea. Looking forward to getting to know you guys more!

I’m in a similar boat as you, I want to go to Africa sometime in the future.

In the meantime, I bought my first safari rifle, a Ruger Guide gun in .375 Ruger, and I’m hoping to take a bear with it this fall.

I’m just a touch younger than you and my youngest is 8 months old. I had a long hiatus from hunting in my late teens and 20s, but now it’s where most of my vacation time goes. I’m booked for my first Africa hunt in August 2026, and I hunt Nevada, Utah, and Idaho yearly. I’m happy to answer any questions you might have, and you’ll find many helpful members here with far, far more experience than me that will also be generous with advice. Welcome!

I have an alaskan in .375 ruger, what a fun rifle. Im hoping to take a bear with mine as well. I could shoot that rifle all day, not punishing in the slightest

Hah! She used to hunt when she was younger, now she just likes high end restaurants and spa days. My game plan is to go on my hunts, then go with her for spa days to massage out the pains of the hunt/packing out

My wife really wants me to go to utah with her for a conference she does annually in october in park city, maybe ill see if i can coordinate some hunting around one of those trips because shes there for about a week each year. You must be looking forward to your african hunt! Very exciting stuff!

Funny you should mention Park City, I grew up in a tiny town about 15 minutes from there. So when the time comes for you visit Utah definitely reach out to me!
