This is my first rifle in the “big bore” class, and it’s a doozy. I’ve been shopping for a 458 WM for a while now and I just had to have this one when I came across it. I like the versatility of the 458 WM and I’m looking forward to working up some loads.

It was made by Peter Hambrusch in Ferlach, Austria in early 2000s and was recently imported here to US. This thing fits me like a glove, balances great, has a really nice trigger, and I’m looking forward to getting my Leupold VX-6HD mounted in this EAW setup. Anyways, I’ve attached a few pics. Does anyone have any experience with this EAW system? They do not seem to be common here in US.

Yes, a very nice looking rifle. Congrats!

Nice rifle. I received a 458 win mag from my wife at Christmas in the Winchester Safari Express and have been blown away by its accuracy. Also plan to reload it. Hopefully I can find some good cast bullet loads for playing around. There’s a guy on YouTube working up longer range loads with light for caliber bullets. If you search 458 win mag you’ll find him as there are not too many videos on it. He’s in Alaska.

Beautiful rifle. EAW and Recknagel mounts are very common on high end firearms from the UK and Europe. All that I have used return to zero after being removed.

Safe shooting

Thanks! I’m going to start loading up some lighter 250-300gr loads to get used to the rifle before I start shooting the 400+ DG stuff. Probably do some hog and deer hunting with it too to get used to it in the field. Targeting an Africa hunt in 2028 so I got some time to get the rifle dialed in. My target DG species is Cape Buffalo, I just want to get one as a bucket list thing. Have no interest in big cats or elephants.

That seems to be what I’m finding as well. There is a guy in New Hampshire who is apparently the sole importer for EAW here in the US, I’ll probably call him this week to see what setting this up will entail. Seems to be the hardest part is mounting the bases, and that’s already done, but I’m unclear as to how well it was done. Hambrusch has a stellar reputation so I can’t think it was shoddy work.

I have 2 sets of EAW system bases and rings on my 470 nitro and 375HH doubles with excellent results and maintains its zero even after removal and reattached .

Congrats. Enjoy in good days.

I've loaded 350gr Speer Hot Cors in mine. They shoot really well.

Congratulations, that is a truly beautiful rifle... I am a big fan of the .458 WM... and the Lott for that matter. Enjoy your rifle, and I hope you get to point it at your dream animal.

for a good buffalo I worked up a load of 78.0 grains of AA2230 using a Hammer Bullets 404 gr Shock Hammer bullet at 2460 fps to a length of 3.680. the picture you see in my avatar is the one shot bull I took at 20 yards.

Lightest I use are 300gn hollow points of some unknown make, I bought several hundred for about 12cents each from an older chap who couldn’t remember what they were, devastating of soft skin game, I also use the 325gn ftx flex tip. For heavy hitting I have some 560 gn pills that hurt at both ends

Beautiful rifle! What are you planning to hunt with it?

I’d like to do a Cape buffalo hunt with it at some point, probably a few years out.

I’ve been learning a lot about these EAW mounts, and discovered that my rear ring’s windage adjustment was frozen, so Mark at NECG is fixing that for me.

In the mean time, I discovered this really cool RMR adapter plate that EAW has made. I fit it to my rifle and it’s really quite interesting. I’ll put it on paper and see how my little Vortex Venom holds up to the recoil.

The 458 is a very versatile cartridge. You can load it to 45-70 levels and have a pleasant round that is excellent for deer, pig and practicing without getting beat up. Every 458 I owned shot great with the lighter loads and most loved cast bullets as well.

Congratulations on a beautiful rifle in a great cartridge.

Safe shooting

Love the stock styling with the Schnabel for end and hogback cheek.

That rifle looks like it's ready to go on a buff hunt with it's new owner. ;)

Jake, Sorry to bug you again. I was wondering if you could share a. couple actual pics of this crossbow with me?

Xpedition Archery USED Scrapeline390X Sniper Gray Crossbow XACW1001 - Light Wear - Needs Bolt/Arrow Guide Spring UA5689

If it is in a decent shape, would you be willing to sell it for $100 shipped? IS it missing the retention spring that goes over the bolt?
Thank you Ferenc

Good morning John, I just read your setup procedure for the northstar duplicator ator. I found it very hand and I did learn some things. I have the same machine and I am having a problem i can not figure out and was hoping you could shed some light on the subject.
