My Randall finally showed up

@Wishfulthinker580 - I know Randall makes a quality knife and has a very good reputation, they have become “collectible” and increase in value mostly because of their scarcity ….that adds more to their price then does their quality.
I’ve had objects that I only wanted to buy the “name brand” even though I knew equal quality existed elsewhere and at a similar or lower price….but I WANTED the name brand - is that part of the appeal to Randall knives? IE: I’ve got to have a Ferrari even though the Porsche is just as Fast !! Similar to Holland & Holland - rare and only a few made each year, by hand and by only One person —- but there are other great rifles, as good quality, more easily available, slightly less expensive…BUT they can Never be a “Holland & Holland” and therefore just won’t do. I don’t own a Randall, would like too but not enough to go through the effort required and the time needed. But I respect - even admire those that do
The name is definitely part of it. I agree you can maybe find knives from lesser known makers that are of equal quality (maybe even better quality) for less money.

On second thought the pricing direct from Randall really isn’t that high compared (at least on some models) to other makers and you may have to do some searching to find something comparable. Pricing for the most part really is on par for most custom or semi-custom makers.

Saw it’s up to a 7 year wait now and they’re recommending ordering from an authorized dealer (one I know of is 11-12 months)..

@Wishfulthinker580 —- I wouldn’t wait 7 years for a Mail Order Bride even if it was Taylor Swift AND Beyoncé combined !!

Well then you don’t get a Randall. I have another one on order now. I like the long time in between arrivals to pay for it!

@migrabill — good point, great knives but I’m gonna hold out for a “Taylor Swift”

I would wait 40 years for Taylor . . . by that time I will have assumed room temperature and would be fine with it. :)
@RR 314 - maybe your chance will come sooner “if the Chiefs LOSE Super Bowel” and she dumps Kelce…..does she have your number??

With so many people making knives. It’s hard to pick a a brand and model that will increase in value like a Randall will.

one that may increase over time is a Winkler. Especially if you can buy a used one that was used overseas.

The tomahawks used in combat are gaining value quickly.

They are still cheaper new

I think my attempted humor was not well executed. In short, I think I would rather hang with Roseanne Barr than Taylor Swift. :-) . I extended the timeline to a point (40 years) where I almost certainly will not be sharing the village’s provisions.

Roseanne Barr over Taylor Swift? Seek help my friend! :D

Owning a Randall in the knife world is like owning a Rigby in the gun world. That said I will stick to my Winchesters and Buck knives!!! Gongradts on a beautiful knife = jealous!!!!

I have a Model 3 w a stag handle. When my son was born, I ordered the same model, stag handled, for him. The wait was worth it. I've kept my son's knife in the gun cabinet, and I will present it to him next season after he takes his first deer. Also, just before Christmas, we finally received their carving set after about six years of waiting. Using the knife and fork to carve Christmas dinner, and thereafter, makes those meals extra special. The blades are pieces of American art, and instant heirlooms.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
