Good Morning All,
This is my first post on the Africa Hunting Forum.

I recently became aware of the attached photos of my Great Grandfather Fred Watts taken in Kenya in 1927.

It is my understanding that Fred worked for the railways in Kenya between the wars. My mothers side of the family lived and worked in Kenya until the mid 1950s when they returned to England.

I am a passionate deer stalker and wildfowler here in the UK and have worked in several African countries myself. I have always had a interest in the golden age of African Safari and hunting with rifles.

As soon as I became aware of these photos, I quickly became fascinated with the idea of going to hunt in Africa.

So my adventure begins!

Welcome to AH.

Any chance the rifle(s) your grandfather used are still around? It would be pretty awesome for you to use the same one on your first hunt.

Great pics and that would be very cool indeed! Have you been able to identify the rifle? It's a bit hard to do from the pics, but maybe you have something in your family history that sheds light on the matter. Thanks for sharing

Kenya in 1927 must have been a special place! You have some amazing heirlooms in those pictures.

Those family photographs are awesome! You need those framed, and on your den wall!

Very cool pics and story. 1927... I would imagine he hunted with one of the Cottars or ..gasp...Bill Judd or Alan Black?

Welcome to AH :S Welcome:

Than k You for the great story and pics

I realize how hard the bug has bit. I’m on the cusp of safari #2 and I’m looking to plan #3 with my 11 year old a year from now while looking at my work schedule for overtime and computing the math of how many shifts are needed….

I'd like to get some too.

My wife (a biologist, like me) had to have a melanoma removed from her arm last fall.

Hallo Marius- do you have possibilities for stags in September during the roar? Where are your hunting areas in Romania?
