Is South Africa Going The Way Of Zimbabwe?

The locals told me they have a fairly good awareness of their corrupt governments and what they would like to see changed. But if a certain village does not vote primarily for the "right party" (aka the ones in power) they get visits from government thugs and people go missing.
You should see all the one armed beggars near the airport in Douala--the warning to others was, "now you CANNOT pull the election lever as you don't have an arm to do it with" (if you propose to vote "the wrong way")

I witnessed the ineptitude of the Zim government when I was there in ‘21. A fairly new post office sorting facility in Harare was boarded up and the only sign of life were the pigeons that live there. I asked what happened and our guide told us that the government suspended mail service a long time ago. Just an example.

Everyone there knows that things are far worse for the average Zimbabwean compared to when Ian Smith was President. Tribal loyalties, nationalistic pride and an uneducated electorate will continue to produce the misery that is now a fact of life. Terribly sad.
Always astounding to see an electric display out of order at an airport, and a chalk board set up in its place...

We took a day to see Harare after our hunt. It was an eye opener for sure. We saw only one operating traffic light….near the airport on the way to the Presidents house. All the rest were vandalized for the copper wire. If Zim were run by marginally competent people, it would be a great place to live. A retirement hot spot.

Bulawayo is even worse

Zimbabwe has zero hope unless a modern, 1st World Country steps in, is permitted by the people to Govern it properly, and is willing to dump BILLIONS of dollars into it with little return on their investment.

Otherwise, it will be life as usual...rob peter to pay paul, steal copper plumbing and wire to make a few dollars, and sell junk on the side of the road....all the while multiplying like rabbits and spreading HIV and AIDS.

Of course, a 1st World Country is what Zimbabwe ALREADY HAD when it was called Rhodesia, but the "Enlightened World" went against those "Racists" and gave it back to the indigenous....now the Zim of 2023 is what you got

RSA was once a Nuclear Power.....now it is descending into the abyss

I wonder what the common denominator is, Hmmmm

For that matter, Detroit, Baltimore, DC, St Louis, etc

The most unexpected shock to me was in Durban--untold miles of razor wire...around every home....business...apartment or gated community...down the street medians in some cases (stop someone fleeing across the street, or what?). If I were to invest in an industry there, it would be stock in razor wire.
