These are great broadheads, I’ve used them on a few animals. Passed through a black bear easily, cutting a rib in half on the way out. The bear made it 20 yards and fell over.

I have never killed an elephant, but I recommend a straight bevel. You will loose a little energy with the rotation of that single bevel. Probably want as much of that energy going straight forward in an elephant.

I used the 250 buff with great results. The Buffalo bull ran the typical 80-100 yards and was bellowing. No rifle follow up.

75# Mathews, 1028 grain arrow. I think 270 ish fps

The bulls were bedded and we crawled to within 25 yards. The target bull didn’t give me a shot so I shot his buddy.

I’ve never heard of a 75lb bow with a 1000 gn arrow going 270!! wow.

I have a new Hoyt RX9 which is really fast going 236fps with 850g arrow at 82 lbs

Yes the buff series with no bleeders, and a normal cutting edge. Just like a knife would have.

Hunt, thanks for questioning the FPS. My compound bow Buffalo hunt was many moons ago.
I switched to recurves and longbows some time ago.

So I had to dig out all of my old compound arrow boxes. And notes as I was preparing.

Your are correct sir. My speed was in the 220fps. No where near 270

If I would have just put myself back in my compound Bow timeframe I would have been closer.

250 grain buff single bevels sure work good. 80lb Lyft 1250 grain total arrow weight. Slightly quartered to me, fletching deep right in the lungs. He bailed off in the water and was dead in just a few minutes.

I took one with my bow a couple years ago on my leopard hunt. I used a hoyt Rx5 at 80lbs with roughly a

700g arrow. The hippo was at 45 yards broadside. I didn’t get a pass through but the arrows broadhead did exit the opposite side. He ran into the water and died within 1 to 2 min

That’s awesome. And a great pic too! Shot placement is everything even big animals can’t survive long with holes in their lungs!

You don’t need 85# your Momentum numbers are fine.
