Hunting the mountain reedbuck….

A species never really chased by first time hunters, but definitely one of my favorite plains game. This requires a lot of early mornings and hiking and scouting the mountain ridges. We were very fortunate to take this superb ram on the last morning of the hunt.

Bush measurements put it at 8 5/8 on the longest horn waiting for the finale scoring to take place but sure it will make top 15 SCI.

Please feel free to share your mountain reedbuck adventures and trophy's…..

I would never have thought of hunting this animal.
Sounds as if you really have to work hard to get one.
It makes this animal a worthwhile but hard work trophy.
Congratulations.

oh it will go top 10- I just had my 2015 mnt reedbuck entered into SCI at 16 7/8 and it was #11. Guess I'm going to #12  (y)

Nice trophy Martin.
Nothing like chasing the Mtn critters.

Congrats on a fine trophy!

That was my #1 animal when I went to SA, My PH said not only had NO ONE ever had Mountain Reedbuck as #1 for him - he'd never even hard of anyone doing it. Love hunting them and GREAT eating!

Nice Ram!

Nice Ram!
Yes they do!

Very nice trophies - the SCI ranking is just a bonus!

I took a great one in the range of 6.5 to 6.75 inches long on the last trip. I was thrilled to death, my PH said it had been hunted before but no one got it. It was a long shot prone during last light just as the wind died down. I still remember the sunset.

Well done Martin

And agreed great venison

In less than 4 months hoping to make my own story of hunting them. When I was looking at a list to put a package together, for whatever reason they really drew me in. With bushbuck and bushpig to boot, and the wife wanting to pursue Kudu and Warthog, I am beyond pumped.

Martin, that hunter looks like Eugene. Can't be him.

I think I saw that Reedbuck.

Very nice sir

Very nice, congrats !

Congrats and thanks for sharing!

Very nice reedbuck. I got this one late May with Jimbah Safaris in the eastern cape near Cookhouse. Green score was just over 8 1/2 inches.

My father-in-law missed it 2 days earlier

Wow guys - 8 inchers - some real dandy's there
Really like the mass in the horns on yours, Steven Pagel...

When I went to the Limpopo, April 2016, I was very excited about the opportunity to hunt these critters, I made sure my PH knew they were high on my list. Researched them quite a bit and decided to hold out for 7+. Didn't really spend much time hunting them, picked up a nice ram by opportunity while hunting Nyala. Just over 7 inches, with decent mass. Will definetely be going back and plan on hunting them as a "target" species - think it would be a fun and challenging hunt

I love the meat of the Mountain Reedbuck and try to hunt them whenever I can.
When I saw this one I noticed it was big, but not how big. After we came home I measure it and it was 7 1/4 on the right and 6 7/8 on the left.
So this may be the first antelope I get to measure officially.
