How much does it usually cost to go on a hunting trip in Africa

I'm struggling with how to tell if the guy is high quality and ethical. I am not willing to gamble on a ph who is either not good or makes poor decisions.

I was post this in the introduction blog, but I think its better here.

I do have a little question to all of you that plan a South African safari :

The Roan is for me one of the most beautiful and attractive plains game and can also be a difficult to hunt, not only because its character as the 2 largest antelope, but also its tough behavior against predators that including lions, add the beautiful in combination of colors.

The negative is that the Roan is a bit expensive to shot even 25 % higher than a Sable and approximate the same as a buffalo in trophy price, is it worth the money ? For me it is, but I think that I see things different and perhaps somehow stereotype and it would be very interesting to know what you think about the Roan Antelope ?

I do not selling hunting or anything commercial, only interested how other fellow hunters see the Roan.

Is it worth the money? A set of horns in a collection is worth absolutely nothing to me. It is the experience they represent - the memories they trigger that gives them value. As a result, I am a little picky about where I hunt many animals. For instance, I have nver had a desire to shoot a nyala on a game ranch. I hasten to add that to do so is perfectly ethical - assuming a large enough tract of fenced land - but I always wanted to hunt one on his native turf. This summer he and sable are both high on my wish list during our two-weeks in Moz. Should I some day have the opportunity to hunt roan in Bushman Land in northern Namibia (native free range), I would be estatic. It has a relatively low priority for me on a game ranch in the RSA. But again the value of that trophy should be what it's taking means to you. A very personal thing. A memory which you give a certain immortality by preserving the trophy.

I too worry about how a hunt is going to be carried out. I'm not 100 % I would hunt one in RSA because I would be worried about the fair chase factor.

West Africa has good roan, speaking French would be a plus. I'm not there yet but I young, got another 40 years to figure it out.

Thanks also Redleg, yes your are right and I do think that ethical hunting is the most important when you looking up on the wall and remember that special trophy, small fenced areas at 1000 hectare is simply not what we looking for.

I would not mind taking one for the right price and we had to search for one . I have seen some decent prices, but did not check for how much land they were on?

But if the price for the hunt is over $10000, I'd probably wait.

My friend have plans to breeding Roan on his farm, its a big 4000 ha fenced but hilly area and therefore relatively challenging hunting. I told him that I think it can be interesting for clients, but perhaps its only me.... fence is fence and we can not change that. And yes Enysse the prices is high because the Roan is difficult to breed, the strange thing is that they not eating grass shorter than 15 cm in combination with some leafs, and even more strange they not like fresh nice green sweet grass that comes after burning old grass !

But the prices is rather high as you say, 10.000 usd is what most farms asking for today.
