Help me pick a rifle to hunt elk with opening weekend

Had to take the 54 for a walk this weekend, loved carrying it, unfortunately the bulls that we came across were not shooters, seen a few spikes a 4 point rag horn bull and a small 5. Did see one buck that almost got a bullet but I passed on him also. Way to early to end my hunting season.

Great choice! There were no bad choices….. That is a beautiful rifle, nice to see it being used.
From what I have seen in other threads, you would have gotten more responses if you would have included the .243……

I have a model 71 Winchester short tang I need to blood. I probably would have voted .348 if it had been included.

I have a 1929 Model 54, so I'm a bit partial. Go hunting with America's caliber, even if it is only a 1:12 twist. ;-)
