I’ve had this gun for quite some time. It’s chambered in 270 Winchester and shoots pretty well. Alas my eyes are getting to the point where they can’t do justice to the peep sight. So I’m consider selling it. However I’m having trouble figuring out how to price it or what to call it in terms of model or grade.

The checking is fairly fine, that and the floorboard make me think it is higher than a base model but short of the highest grades. The peep sight doesn’t have a brand name on it but is one of my favorite parts, the adjustments are pretty fine and very positive in the clicks.

Does anyone know if there is a source where I could find out the year of manufacture based on the serial number? I’m guessing it is a 50s gun. The pronghorn on the floor plate indicates it was made for the American market.

Thoughts appreciated.

That's a Lyman receiver sight and yes they are high quality. Very nice rifle, I like the old FN Mausers. I can't speak to grade as I am not an expert on these rifles.

Thanks. I kind of assumed it was a Lyman but wasn’t sure since it doesn’t say it anywhere.

It’s a delightful rifle. My eyes are just such I’m not sure how much I’ll use it going forward.

That is a very typical standard FN supreme. This is what turned into later the browning Safari grade. I do not believe that floor plate came from the factory. I don’t know how to know for sure serial number wise, but I think you’re correct and in assuming it is a 50s gun. Judging from the serial number, it could possibly be late 40s as well I believe.Depending on the day that Gun would sell on gun broker from $900-$1400.

The floor plate sure fits like its original but maybe not. It’s well don’t if it isn’t. When I got it the dealer had another one in 30-06 that had a floor plate like it but with a mule deer on it.
