Has Technology Made Hunting Too Easy?

The bad thing about long distance is if you make a bad shot, there could be a tree or hill or something that allows the animal to escape before you get a second shot out. Way to many variables at 350 yds.+. I think there are some calibers that take the guess work out of the equation but it's a lot more enjoyable for me to stalk to 100 yds. or less and make the kill.

I'm sorry, but in my opinion..... Long-range hunting, like the 500+ yard shots cannot & should not be called HUNTING, that's called SHOOTING...

I will never be in support of that at all. To me there is no challenge in that. Yes, it's a challenge to get the bullet where you want it to be at 500+ yards, but why not shoot targets then and rather spare an animals life?

To me, the thrill of the chase, trying to see how close you can get and then try and putt the animal down with one clean shot, that's hunting... At 500+ yards, the animal has no clue you're there!

Some people do not like sitting on a water hole but I think it is better than sniping at extreme ranges. I think it is more about trying to kill the animal humanely.

Strauss hit the nail on the head!!

One of my favorite quotes is from Aldo Leopold:
Ethical behavior is doing the right thing when no one else is watching- even when doing the wrong thing is legal.”
I think it applies to this discussion, but it's still subject to individual interpretation/application. Mr. Leopold also said, “There are some who can live without wild things and some who cannot.” I think this applies to the discussion as well. Long before I ever heard this second quote, it was taught to me by a family friend, Cal Skotland. As a teenager I went goose hunting with my dad's good friend, Cal. The geese one particular morning came in a very very large flock and just started pouring into the decoys. I kept watching geese land and waiting for Cal to say, "take 'em." After awhile they all suddenly left and we never fired a shot. Confused, I looked at Cal and he had the biggest smile I've ever seen. We did shoot other geese that morning and it was truly a very memorable hunt and I learned that Cal couldn't live without experiencing 'wild things.' The last thing I want is a law that says where the line/limit is, but we each need to find it.

We can all learn from Aldo Leopold, a true hero of conservation!

Not sure your price range. Have a 375 H&H with a muzzle brake. Nice rifle only fired a few times. Also a Mossberg 375 Ruger its been used and shows a few hunts on it.
