Greetings from Switzerland

welcome , my wife just happen to tell me tonite that she wants to go to Switzerland in the spring , im hoping there are a few nice gun shops to visit
Widstud, close to Zurich Airport, is a modern shooting facility with a gun store. I can also recommend Büchel Waffen in Altstätten, in case you also decide to visit Liechtenstein.

Alpinehuntsman, welkommen mein herr! or should I say "Grüezi"? Switzerland and the Swiss people are wonderful. I have many old friends in the Baden, Oberentfelden and Zurich areas. You mentioned experience hunting in the USA? What parts/States? and for what species if I may inquire?

The 270 is a great all round rifle cartridge and the Steyr rifles are some of the best. I have hunted mainly with an old German Mauser that was turned into a custom sporter many years ago that is chambered in 270. It has never failed me. Only when I began hunting in Africa did I find need for anything larger. Good to have you on the AH forum Sir!
“Merci vielmal” for the welcome! I’ve hunted in California years ago for black-tailed deer, wild pigs, wild turkey, mourning doves and band-tailed pigeons.

Welcome!

I’m going to be in Geneva for work in August. Any advice on gun or hunting stores to visit is appreciated! Also are you aware of any hunting available that time of year?

Welcome,Alpine Huntsman.
I don't agree about ibex hunt being not challenging. For a married foreigner the bill for a "Kapital Steinbock" is very challenging!"
I suppose it all depends on the terrain, which can be challenging. : ) Alpine Ibex were extirpated at one point in Switzerland due to their peculiar behaviour. When one is shot, they don’t tend to run away as do chamois. They will often go a short distance and then look back. That enabled Swiss hunters in the 1800s to shoot multiple ibex in one go.

Welcome! Please excuse the engineer in the room, but if 7mm is the minimum bore size for big game, how are you able to use a .270?
Thanks for the welcome, and good point! I suppose it depends on how one chooses to define “caliber” ... the land or the bullet diameter.
In the canton where I hunt, the following legislation applies …

The following are prohibited for hunting: 1. armoured bullets, modified or not; 2. the ball in the shape of a steel ball; 3. projectiles with a metal jacket of a calibre of less than 7 mm;

In the case of a .270 Winchester, the bullet diameter is 7.04 mm.

Thanks! It can be difficult to hunt in Switzerland as a foreigner. Each canton sets its own rules on which foreign hunting licenses are recognized. Roe deer and/or wild boar are the most likely hunting options in August depending on the canton.

Xpedition Archery USED Scrapeline390X Sniper Gray Crossbow XACW1001 - Light Wear - Needs Bolt/Arrow Guide Spring UA5689

If it is in a decent shape, would you be willing to sell it for $100 shipped? IS it missing the retention spring that goes over the bolt?
Thank you Ferenc
