I'm going to SA in September and will be using the PH'S rifles and ammo. I've heard that ammo can be difficult to get there, so I'm wanting to bring a couple boxes of ammo to help replenish what I use. Some say that I can, others say no ammo alone, but only with a firearm. Any info on that?

I believe that is correct, you can only bring ammunition if you are bringing a gun. The ammo must match with the rifle, although most reports says RSA doesn’t look too closely at the head stamp on the brass.

Regardless of where you are traveling to if you have ammunition in your luggage and no rifle you may have a lot of explaining to do. Leave it behind.

You can bring bullets and/or brass, but I would not even begin to think about bringing loaded ammo with no accompanying rifle.

You are entering a foreign country, don’t add any self inflicted issues that may cause you emotional trauma. Keep it simple, clean and to the book. I can tell you TSA has ammo rules, SA has ammo rules and if you have a layover in another country they have ammo rules and so does the airline. Give him $100 for ammo if you are so inclined.

Can you bring reloads to South Africa? They're pretty much all I shoot from my bigger stuff and I'm going next year for buffalo. I've heard different answers to this question. This seems like a good place to ask this without making my own thread. I don't mean to hijack yours.

You can't bring in ammunition without a rifle chambered in that caliber and no ammo without a rifle in general. I.E., if you are temporarily importing a 30-06 to hunt with but are also attempting to bring in a few boxes or 375 H&H for the outfitter you are going to have major issues with the authorities. Additionally, if you are using a camp rifle and not traveling with one, you cannot bring any ammo in general.

As far as components, brass and projectiles, it is going to be dependent upon which "customs agent" that inspects you bags. I have seen it go both ways......they don't care or you are detained and extorted for a bribe.

No loaded ammunition without a firearm of the corresponding caliber.

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
