Ha! Ha! You know, it’s just a rifle and although I thought it was a very good price I wouldn’t have lost any sleep over it if someone else had bought it. I’ve missed a number of good deals on firearms over the years for various reasons so I don’t get wrapped up about it. There’s always more good deals out there you just have to get lucky and stumble upon them at the right time. You are one lucky Colorado Elk Hunter, the leather cheek rest/ammo holder is worth 150.
Only bad thing is ,if you decide to turn it for cash we know what you paid now.
Curious did you sleep any the night before returning?
I was there yesterday afternoon and had a good look around. They had a Ruger No 1. in .416 (Rem Mag I think), but it was listed at $2999.99I might have to stop in Cabela's down in Lonetree when I'm down that way.
I haven't been in a Cabela's since February 2022
A lot of their used firearms are WAY overpriced. Sometimes the same or more than new. I don’t get their pricing but I noticed when Bass Pro bought Cabelas the pricing for used went way up.I was there yesterday afternoon and had a good look around. It was in great condition, but a little steep for my budget. They also had a '52 model 70, I cant remember the caliber, it wasn't in great shape though. I think they wanted $1999.99 for it.
Agreed. I was there with the goal of handling a few different Beretta 92s. They had a brand new 96 for $849 and and old, very beat up, 96 in the gun room for $850. It looked like it had been a duty pistol for years. $849 for the new one is below MSRP, but still much higher than you can find else where. $850 for an old beat up example is just crazy.A lot of their used firearms are WAY overpriced. I had to quit going to Scheels because in the last three trips, I had another CZ550 in 375H&H follow me home, lol. Haven't been to Bass Pro or Cabelas recently, but always make a point to go through their used inventory when I do. Trying to figure out how they come up with pricing can really give one a headache. Those 375s were way below market, which is why I bought them, but I've looked at a lot of rifles that were 20% or more above blue book, even if they had been in excellent condition.A couple of Sundays ago I was at my local Bass Pro looking through their used gun rack. I hadn’t been there for several months and wasn’t looking for anything in particular. I found this used/like new Ruger M77 Hawkeye African .375 Ruger for $1k. I quietly left and came back Monday when they had their ten percent off sale (plus five percent off for active/retired mil/le). It was still there. I asked the gun counter guy WHY this hadn’t sold yet. He looked it up on his computer and found no record of it in their inventory, which means it never made it onto Cabela’s nationwide Gun Library listings. He told me they had received 1500 used firearms over three days and had no way of inventoring all of them quickly. I found no evidence it had ever been shot. Sometimes better lucky than good. LOL
No, I’ll have to buy one from Ruger. I think they’re $20. Why would the previous owner have put the rings on but doesn’t appear to have mounted a scope in them? Or even shot the rifle with open sights? I don’t get it.
My brother bought this a couple of weeks ago. He unfortunately lives in Californicate and saw it on GB but the seller was in Fallbrook (San Diego) so he drove there and bought it. He doesn’t hunt anymore but likes collecting older firearms and really enjoys the history behind many of them. I do too actually.Agreed. Yeah, I hit Scheels first before I found my Ruger at Bass Pro. Just looking around but they have some good prices on their used handguns.I had to quit going to Scheels because in the last three trips, I had another CZ550 in 375H&H follow me home, lol. +1 on finding deals on firearms and buying them with no particular reason in mind. I told my brother it’s a “sickness” but keeps out of the bars. He laughed his a** off but he abides by the same philosophy. LOLI had a similar find in the Cincinnati area Cabelas several years back. It was shortly after I had overpaid for a 375 ruger and happened to stop in that Cabelas on the way to visit my brother. I found the 374 ruger alaskan on the used rack that I thought was mis priced as it said $500 and at the time they were fetching about $1500 or more. I took it to the counter and the guy just said we just got that in. I got another 5% off and left very happy. I had two for a while and they both shot well but I just kept the one that shot a little more consistent. In the end I came out a little better than even since I did kind overpay the first time. I only did that to help out a buddy in need. I sometimes just buy things that are deals that I don't even have a need or want for other than hard to pass up a good deal. Someone I know will be very happy and they get the deal passed to them straight up!

Better question how to accuratly search the national inventory.A pretty good percentage of the deals I've scored at my local Cabelas/Bass Pro were not listed online, and my guess is that happens all over the country on a regular basis. One of these days I intend to ask the guys at my local Bass Pro (whom I've kind of become friends with) to help me understand why some guns show up on the online catalog and others don't; and also why i often see some listings stay active for long after the gun has sold.

Ha! Ha! Well they didn’t have any Whelens for sale (I looked) so I couldn’t tell the sales guy I wasn’t interested. LOL
