Inspired by the interest of some members in developing some ability to judge plains game trophies I have copied the post from my hunt report thread.

Have fun.

Here is your first Trophy Estimating Test.
You were allowed Binoculars from 100 yards.
You get 30 seconds on each trophy.
Guess a number in inches that is 1 inch +/-.
The other relative size clue was the models Shoulder Points are 20 inches wide.

Don't worry, the hunter that is relying on you only came half way around the world and is spending chump change on his once in a lifetime hunting trip. (Why would you want to be a PH again?)
You'll have to look up your own material to properly estimate these trophies.
Ok, I'll help a little.

PM ME YOUR ESTIMATES and I'll let you know your results.

EXAMPLE: Answer format:
#1 - 46.5 inches. Gnu - Meets Rowland
#2 14.5 inches Rooibok - Not Rowland

I'll make it easy and we will just do ROWLAND WARD: Picture Set 6

This looks like fun!

Have at it Charlie.

OK, 100 thread views and only one taker on the test.
Hmmm.

So on example #1. Are we supposed to use the width of the ears of the individual holding the horns to determine length of the wildebeest horns?:whistle::rolleyes::oops::D

You want everything to be fair or something. Sheesh.

You can use the points of David's shoulders. 20 inches wide. :)

Hmmm.

I told my PH to send in my answers, not sure what happened....

I will send in my guesses shortly, as sorry as they may be.

If Beans is guessing for you that should be good.

@Wheels and @Royal27 you guys did great.
Pretty impressive.
If you guys worked together as a PH and took each of your strengths you would be deadly.

PM's sent.

And aren't two PH's required when hunting springhare in some provinces of SA anyway? :p

I decided to do this again, then looked back at my pm. I haven't improved much. My mistakes are all in the same direction as 10 months ago. I still have a hard time thinking that kudu is 53.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.

Hi EGS

I read your thread with interest. Would you mind sending me that PDF? May I put it on my website?
