DALLAS - Today's announcement of the confirmation of Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke as the new Secretary of the Department of Interior marks the beginning of a new era for American outdoorsmen and women.

In his new role, Secretary Zinke is responsible for protecting the natural resources of the U.S., which include federal lands and overseeing the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. DSC is pleased to see this position filled by an ardent proponent of continued access to public lands and a champion of conservation.

DSC has supported Congressman Zinke since his initial run for Congress. "Secretary Zinke is a man of unquestionable character who knows the issues that face wildlife and wilderness lands at home, and abroad" said Allen Moore, president of DSC. "He epitomizes and embodies the mission of DSC - conservation, education and advocacy for sportsmen and women. DSC is thrilled with this confirmation."

In an earlier statement, Zinke said, "As inscribed in the stone archway of Yellowstone National Park in Gardiner, Montana, I shall faithfully uphold Teddy Roosevelt's belief that our treasured public lands are 'for the benefit and enjoyment of the people.' I will work tirelessly to ensure our public lands are managed and preserved in a way that benefits everyone for generations to come."

"Secretary Zinke is one of us - an outdoorsman and conservationist," said Richard Cheatham, president of DSC Foundation. "He will be a fine steward for America's natural assets and a strong advocate for our hunting heritage."

DSC and DSC Foundation salute Secretary Zinke; offer their support, counsel, and best wishes; and convey their gratitude for his willingness to take on such an important role during this critical time.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.
