I am looking at a couple slightly used 416's rifles made by Empire and Dakota. They are configured in a very similar manner, LOP, weight, barrel length, wood quality...

Which makes a better rifle, Empire or Dakota?

Thanks for your feedback.

That is a tough question. I would have to say that I do not think you could go wrong with either..........probably should go with which ever one appeals the most to you personally.

I'm with Kelly, they are both very, very good rifles and will each hold their value.

Nothing bad to say about either, but I have seen two Dakotas that developed cracks in the stock. Gunsmith repairs to the area of the reinforcing cross bolts fixed the problem, and Dakota paid for the repairs. The Empires are a truly sweet rifle. I know of one hunter that has invested in one, a remarkable rifle in every aspect.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
