That's somewhere around 20 sf of leftover cape buffalo hide. I'd like to get some cowboy boots and belts made from it. Maybe even a vest if there's enough left over.

Any custom makers in Houston I could call on?

Go talk to Maida's at Chimney Rock and Westeimer. There are other boot makers around Houston too but Maida's has been in business for 50 plus years and there is a reason why.

that color variation will make some nice products.

Did you have the tanned leather snuffed here in the states? Or in Africa?

Pre2020 I would have said republic, since new ownership, I would not use republic personally.

A buddy used Zane Parker recently and had good service with a quality product.

I know you asked for Houston but highly recommend James Leddy in Abilene.

+10000

It would be a haul from Houston.. but IMO its very much worth the drive..

Al (cobbler at James Leddy) has made custom western boots, hunting boots, belts, wallets, etc for several AH members.. to my knowledge everyone has been super happy with the results..

Turn around time has been super fast whenever Ive used them.. and the pricing has been bar none the best of any reputable boot maker Ive found in TX (several hundred dollars cheaper than anyone else.. and in a couple of cases well more than $1K cheaper)..

My wife and I are planning on taking Al our ostrich skins from our 2022 hunt to Al sometime in the near future.. we just haven't gotten around to it yet..

Cowtown boots in El Paso is where we get our boots made. I know it’s not H town but it’s Texas and they do great work. Abraham is great to work with.

Unfortunately, we gotta get measured. Planning on a pair for myself, the missus, and my daughter - we all have exceedingly narrow feet, and for the missus and myself, exceedingly long as well. I wear a 14A or a 13B, depending on who's doing the measuring and cutting. The missus wears something like a women's 13AAAA

Africa, Trophy Pro SA did the work.

Called them, they're well north of my budget, almost $4k per pair.

Yep. Seems way too high in my book. There was an old boot place in Houston called Tejas Boots but not sure what happened to it. Also, Pinto Ranch used to have a leather shop but not sure it’s still around.

Many folks are recommending travel. I’ll be one more: head 4.5 hrs south to the RGV where cowboy boots were likely invented.

Armando’s in Raymondville is frequently listed as the best. Camargo’s in Mercedes is also frequently lauded.

Unlike the recommenders, I’ll meet up with you and buy you a beer!

I’ll second Armando’s, Armando and Armando Jr are legends and do great work. An easy, same day flight from Houston or worth a drive and stop for some fishing on the coast while you’re down.

I have several people recommend Jesse’s in South Houston. I have no personal experience with them but I’m in the same boat when I get my Cape buffalo hide hopefully this summer

At size 14, you clearly have a well-developed understanding.

I'd like a bag of 100. I could actually pick it up since I'm in North Irving, but if you prefer, shipping it is fine.
