Considering a Ruger No. 1

Thank you for the suggestions, I had asked about offering prices, they don't do it as all long guns in their shop is consignment only and they "don't pester the sellers with endless offers" and that's why guns sit on their shelves for years, but that is the nature of their business, ya know free market and all.

They specialize in revolvers, special editions and antiques, i typically know more about the long guns then they do. I have purchased several over the years there and they are easy to buy from and occasionally i will get a steal from them.

I would like a #1-A for the irons but truth be told i think id put a scope on it anyways.
Nothing wrong with putting a scope on a No.1S or A.
I prefer a 1” tube over a 30mm on the No.1, keeps the weight down. The exception being on heavy calibers. Then the lpvo like a Leupold 1-6 would be my choice.

Hello all,

I have the opportunity to purchase a Ruger #1-B in 30-06 my local gun store has one on the shelf listed for $1200+ tax. in my research on the internet i cannot seem to find a # in 30-06 for sale i see plenty in other caliber but not in the 06 i know Ruger probably made a lot in 30-06 for apparent reasons and this means people probably like them so much they don't sell them. Can anyone advise me if this is a deal? It has the original box and rings with it no scope and it is a very clear well kept rifle, I would describe the figure of the wood as excellent. it is black pad version.

I would like to own a #1 one day but i am patient, can pass and continue looking. I also would hate to miss out on a deal as i passed up a Mauser 66 in .243 for $1000, in a fit of stupidity.

If anyone can advise any common problems i should look for, id appreciate it.

Missing out on a 243 in any rifle is nothing to worry about. Being in that calibre it should have been $500 so you could get it rebored or rebarrel.
The Ruger No1 is a beautiful rifle but I find the trigger a bit heavy but a cheap easy fix.
Ain't nought wrong with th ought six. If you didn't like it and wanted more a simple trip to JES to take it out to 35 Whelen.
That seems a good price to me.

Even converted to AUD that would be a steal here.. I’d love one.

My mate Greg sold a beautiful wood No1 in 270 with a 26" tube for $1,600 AUD . Still kick my self for not buying it but an 8 week trip overseas with the wife took priority.

No love for the .243? I really enjoy the round never had anything get away from me with it makes for a comfortable day at the range.

They're wonderful rifles and I always encourage friends to buy them. I have 3 of them and they've all been very accurate out of the box. I agree with Bandera on the 1" scopes vs 30mm. I use the Leupold VX3 1-5 and 4-12 scopes on mine mounted in Leupold low rings. Keeps the package trim, though some people can run into eye relief issues due to the rings+1/4 rib system (mainly on higher power scopes). I guess extension rings can be used, but I've never liked them aesthetically.

You might have edited your post on the PH in the Bubye. I know the PH and is a wonderful person and a fmaily man and runs a succesful business in Zim and just doesn't want the attention that the internet offers, the ugly kind.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
