Coming to AK to hunt moose?

Many years ago me and two friends did a drop hunt. We shot a moose about a 1000 yards from our pickup spot. We were beat just moving it that far. Later in the week we saw a really big bull about three miles from the river. We unloaded our guns and dry fired on it. We knew for one it was going to be brutal and two it would take the rest of the hunt to get it in. Not to mention it was hot. Do not mess around in Alaska or really anywhere. It’s the right thing to do.

My farthest pack of an AK moose was 1.5 miles on the GPS on uneven spongy ground. It was like walking on two stacked wet mattresses

The online class and test was all of 30 or so minutes.

My first Alaska moose hunt was a DIY hunt. We found a good bull 4.5 miles from camp and I shot him. It took 3.5 days with two other guys helping the last day to get him back to the airstrip. It was brutal but he has been hanging in my living room for several years now and we made a local one happy man with all that meat (except 1/2 of a back strap we ate on every day until the hunt was over).
