Choosing the right ammunition

Hey, at least we're consistent bluey ;)

in Victoria where im from the gun licencing ,has step up out of the ice age ,and we can get our permit to acquire , online ,and pickup the firearm generally with in 24 hours now .
if you use the snail mail , it will be more like 2-4 weeks .
and if you buy a firarm that has to be sent , its got to be done by secure freight ,to a gunshop . its forty bucks anywhere in the country .

not sure what the nato rounds are worth here ,but its less than a dollar a shot ,for 308,and 223 is way cheaper again

I recently purchased a 300 rounds of Wolf .308 FMJ's for practice that was $149 for 300 rounds. Even came with a free mil-surplus ammo can!

150gr TTSX or 150-165gr Nosler Partition or 165gr Swift A-Frame or the 150gr Swift Scirocco II would be my choice

50 cents a pop , that's what l pay for 17hmr......sheesh,and I was having a good day.....:(:(

Not to put gentleman's juice on your cupcakes, so to speak, but if you are spending the big bucks for an African safari and will have to face the time lost and added expense for following up any wounded animal, the last thing I would do would be to use anything less than a premium bullet. And, to repeat what someone earlier stated, if you get a textbook broadside shot, all is well; a quartering shot may present problems with Core Lokts.

From what I hear, both wildebeest and hartebeest are tenacious and tough to anchor. Now this is subjective but I have had little luck in the accuracy department with Barnes bullets and they usually copper plate my barrels in a short time. Conversely, I have never had any difficulty getting Nosler Partitions or Accubonds to shoot well and, though my experience with Swift bullets is neither deep nor wide, I have been satisfied with their accuracy.

So my answer to your question is that I would choose a 165 grain Nosler Partition or Accubond, or Swift 165 grain Scirocco or A-Frame, whichever shot best in my rifle and go to Africa full of confidence.

Good luck on your journey.

You achieved 3/4" at 100 yards with a 180 Core Locket and you are concerned about what to take? That bullet is fine for what you will be hunting.

Shoot that accurately on safari and your PH and trackers will be thanking you for the lack of tracking of wounded game.

Just wanted to follow up and let every know I decided to go with the Norma 180 gr Oryx. There are a couple of reasons why. First was that I feel it's important to support the site sponsors here. The website has been a tremendous resource for me so I am going to support the sponsors when I can. I probably wouldn't even have considered this ammo otherwise since it doesn't seem very popular here in the States. Plus Midway USA had a great price on it so I had to give it a try.

But the main reason is that this ammo works great in my Tikka. Groups are well within an inch at 100 yards! My last group today was just about 1/2 moa! It was a little windy and snowing at the time which makes that even more impressive. Swedish ammo in a Finnish gun seems like a great combo. :)

I am really starting to like this Tikka T3. Now I just need to gets some sticks and keep practicing so I am ready come April. Because if I miss there's no way I can blame the gun now.
