Chapuis question

I have booked my first African hunt (cape buffalo) and the whole african bug has bitten me pretty bad.
Anyway I have been looking at double rifles and notice on tbe new chapuis doubles t g e regulating wedge sticking out from the end of the barrels. This is ugly is it the way all chapuis come?

You may be asking the wrong person as I have never owned a DR. I suspect it is for ease of adjustment to get the rifle regulated for your ammo of choice, then a gunsmith may be able to cut that off and file it smooth? Just a guess though.

Everyone I’ve seen/owned had the wedge sticking out. Someone like JJ might be able to file it down without messing up the regulation

@mitch4570 - I know that my Chapuis .470 NE had that “wedge” that stuck out 1/4” between the 23.5” barrels. I thought it looked a bit odd but it didn’t bother me, When I questioned about it I don’t recall the “purpose” of it but was told it can protect the barrels from damage - should you bang the tip…. Some others on this forum may have more insight. I will say it was a very accurate rifle and was told above average accuracy for a Double rifle.

The purpose of the extended wedge sticking out is to made it much easier and cleaner to perform and adjusting to the barrel regulation. It allows grabbing the wedge to pull it forward and of course makes it very easy to push it in.

Now don't go pushing or pulling nor should you allow Bubba's Gun Fixin' shop to do so. However if it needs adjustments, having that makes it easier for someone like J.J. Perodeau to do so.... After he heats up the solder

It does also offer some protection when setting the gun muzzle down. And yes it can be cut off. No it won't change the regulation by cutting it off. It will make it more difficult to change the regulation in the future, but no different than a rifle without it.

A Chapuis, in my opinion is a great choice for a first Double and is in my opinion the best buy out there on a new double rifle, in a classic configuration and with the nessasary reliability reputation.

Hi I have just brought a used Rizini .470 DOUBLE nitro express it cost me £7000 [$10,000] And is wonderful and i shot my first cape buffalo with it on march 20th this year, the rifle was like new in its box with all the cleaning kit and a aimpoint scope and 30 rounds of ammo thrown in the the deal.
I Looked a CHAPUIS ARMS Brand and its quite nice and the wedge system is used by them to regulate although its a bit ugly,my Rizini has a hidden allen bolt for regulation....but was spot on anyway with Honady ammo...........................thanks jeff

Chapuis double have the wedge out the front other than when I looked at it on the first Chapuis I bought it.
The rifle shot VERY well and I never gave it consideration again. I have owned 4 different Chapuis over the years and the 9.3 RGEX in my safe is my Favorite rifle I own.

Congragulation with your new Chapuis double rifle, they are legendary world class guns. yes I agree the protruded front part makes it little ugly but it is there for re regulation for heavy use. I wish I was younger to have one.
