I was target shooting using my 22 handgun (semi auto)
I had numerous problems with ammo not firing.
Gunsmith checked and said that there was no or very little priming compound in the 22 cartridge.
I had initially thought my gun was the problem.
Has anyone else had this issue ??

How was your gunsmith able to discern that diagnosis?

We have noticed over the last two years shooting pistol league and rifle league at our local club, especially with .22 calibre pistols failure to fire on the first strike, after removing the catridge and reinserting most fire but not all, we concluded right or wrong that the catridges didnt have priming compound completly around the rim.

That being said of all the different brands being used cci rarely has issues, federals seem to have the most.

Ammo for the .22 varies widely..........some good, some better and some terrible.

Need a brand name for this to be useful.

I have also heard of some .22 pistols doing better with a replacement firing pin.

In my case it was the Ruger MKIV.

Good luck.

I have had several comments on CCI primers not firing first strike they tirn round and have most fire. All primers were purchased in flats not a brick. Wonder if hard handling has a role in the problem by jarring anvil loose

I have all ways went to cci when I had a hard to feed 22.
Especially the stinger and min mag.
I have 2 45 / 22 conversations units and the work 95% with the above cci
Probably less than 50% with any other ammo

What cci were you using?

All of the miss fires that I have ever had have been with my semi autos. Both Ruger MkI target and a S&W. I've never had one with a revolver.

And I'd hate to see how much money I have spent on 22 Lr.

Same experience for me. I’ll also retry rounds that didn’t go off the first time and they usually fire on the second try.

CCI Mini mags have run spectacularly in my MKIV

I had a lot of failure to fire problems with CCI Small Rifle Primers 8 thru 10 months ago while testing reloads for my 22 Hornet.

I have 2 1000 count boxes of CCI small rifle primers I don't trust to go bang. I now rely on Winchester Primers for my reloading.

Are reloaders still having failure to fire problems when using CCI Primers?

CCI Primers in my experience are harder and require a little more striking power than Federal for example.

Members who are responding here should realize that we are talking about 22 Lr RIM FIRE and not a center fire rifle primer.

I have never pulled a 22 Lr to look at how the priming compound actually looks around the rim. Perhaps I'll do that today when I get my chores done.

where are you located? I would be happy to help you with you doing the reloading but I will only load for a very few real close friends as posted before liability is the problem. but will help you.

Just received your book. It will be a Christmas present from my wife. Looking forward to read it.
