Buffalo or elephant?

For me ele, same type of hunt= exhilarating. I just think unwounded an ele is more tense. Either wounded is something I have not experienced. Have been very close to both many times but sweat shows up on me more and faster when close to elephants. Plus I think we will be still hunting buffalo long after the greenies shut down ele.

I love both but would hunt ele if the price were the same.

For those who have hunted both, which would you rather go back for?
Answer to that question is easy, elephant. However never that hunting elephant lightly, to do it right you need to be prepared physically, mentally, and well practiced shooting both offhand and off sticks. Reloading drills, equipment functioning properly.

And yes, same thing for buffalo, but buffalo just is not elephant hunting. Make a plan to do both but get the elephant as soon as you can do it right.

Tuskless elephant cows are the most rewarding....
Have never hunted ele or buff. But being from South Africa i have been very close to both, ele just has that "Shit your pants faster" thing going for it when they get irritable.

But if i may ask, why is Tuskless cows most rewarding?

I would have to say taking an old bull near the end of his life would be rewarding, especially one who's on his last teeth. And non trophy hunts are a real deal these days. A big bull with a broken tusk sounds like a great trophy to me.

I've never been on a tuskless hunt, but getting in close on a herd of cows will definitely give you the pucker factor;) Especially when they know you are there and start snorkeling to pin point you. There were 23 cows and several calves in that group.... they scared me. Those big bitches just have attitude. You know they mean business. The bulls without cows around did not.

Very interesting, from the comments above its Elephant all the way... With reference to Dr Kevin Robertson's podcasts on elephants, I found it surprising that he said he felt a deep sense of regret after each of his elephant hunts.
Well, first how many that have said elephant actually shot one or more? Secondly, if one respects the animal then of course there will be a sense of regret regardless. That being said elephant hunting from tracking, to time taken to closely approach, to actual shooting is addictive. It is really hard to explain. Completely different from just putting the sticks up and shooting for most other game.

Baboons, now I will shoot baboons all day long ;)

Bulls are easy by comparison.

Tuskless elephant cows require you to get into the herd and I mean very close as you need to first find a tuskless then get inside the herd so to speak to determine that she does not have a dependent calf at foot or that she is heavily pregnant and to do so you need to check the mammaries which are located between the front legs...
All tuskless cows have an attitude problem something comparable to small man syndrome they are born pissed off and it gets worse the older they get....
I have never seen a tuskless cow being a matriarch....
A lot more exciting and adrenaline packed than hunting bulls....
Bitches of the bush they are....

To quote @Royal27 "I want to hunt Buffalo again. I have to hunt Elephant again".

And although I've added a couple of buffalo since I said that, I still have to hunt elephant again.

Andrew, I commented that your on 375 H&H for sale was the fair price.

Like I commented, my classic stainless has the original 24” barrel.

Did you buy yours with the barrel already cut down to 21” or did you do it (or a gunsmith)?
