Brilliant! Practice For A Charging Buffalo

Some of those RC's can go 60 mph
internet search for "how fast are RC cars?"

RC cars can reach speeds ranging from 20 mph for beginners to over 100 mph for high-performance models. The fastest RC cars can exceed 300 km/h (186 mph), but most hobbyist models typically range between 30 to 150 km/h (20 to 93 mph).

How fast is a startled bull from a dead stop?
How long do you have to reload and get back on target - including coming out of recoil?
Assume the timer starts at the first shot.

Just my $.02 guess at how to set up a scenario where shot #2 is the only one that matters. ~2.7 seconds if starting from 25 yards and breaking the shot at 5 yards. (Or let Google AI estimate from some random distance and speed.)

AI Overview:
It takes approximately 2.73 seconds to travel 20 yards at a speed of 15 mph.
I can't find the name off hand, but there is a dangerous game training range in the US. $$$

Granted, not the same as a real animal, but better than just bench/range shooting

That looks like a cheap way to have a lot of fun.

Now to act like the Karen or fun police. Sorry there has to be one in every crowd :D

Don’t burn into your memory shooting those first two, long distance shots. You might get in the habit of using your one chance at too far distance.

Especially for bear hunts. Those first two shots may be at an illegal distance for shooting a bluff charge.
Very True. The point would be to work on that very last but well placed shot.

found this on a different thread from dogcat1 Feb. 2025

Go to the SAAM school at FTW Ranch for training. Best money you will spend for your buff hunt.
If you do not believe me, check their website

Nothing replaces the real thing, but a different form of practice

This was a recent thread on moving targets.....

We used to simply use rolling tires on a hill (can easily reach 30+ MPH, easy to change angles and your backstop is a hill of soil.) 'Can either affix cardboard of the appropriate color (au naturale for brown bear, black for buff or bear) on one or both sides, and then shooting at the tread straight-on coming at you for a frontal/head shot. (No 2 rolls are the same and sometimes it hops up/down just like a buff head coming at you!) Rubber trees or precious metals mining-it's your choice! lol *Have a brand new, cheap, lower-ply BKT tractor tire where the sidewall gave out on the very 1st day. They say a vulcanizing firm can fix it, but from then-on I now purchase high end, highest ply tires on everything (and have not had any such issues and 2x the mileage on trucks!) Its best and highest use is practicing for DG on hills. Also, shotgunning for clays, pheasants, rabbits and using a pump (and then any) rifle on moving game really teaches one to instinctively line up, and fire on such targets. 'Have been to Griffin & Howe's DG range (saw it-looks fantastic, saw a video of it in action but I was just shooting clays with a member/customer.) The RC idea is cool, and it does sell RCs/batteries/metals/plastics, but overthinking it a bit in my book. I'm sure we'll see a home moving target model soon enough....The archery video shoots are about a lifelike as it gets in practice. I would think same could be rigged up indoors or out for rifles! Enjoy. I myself wanted to put a buff target on my ex mother-in-law and give her a good stern kick start, but she was resistant and I had to fall back on her likeness-the big lug tires....

Good idea! Best I've seen for an improvised range. It is unfortunate that there does not seem to be any shooting cinemas available in North America like there is in Germany. To qualify for a German treibjagd, ( group hunt) I had to shoot at videos of moving game with my regular .30-06 rifle and live rounds, the projection was on a screen that records the hits and could be played back. To qualify on running wild boar, a minimum of 5 out of 8 shots need to be clean killing shots.
The operator showed me there were also optional videos of African game but due to limited time I was not able to shoot at them. I'd love to practise shooting on a video of a real charging African buffalo, or elephant, or lion, and have the shots played back immediately after, with the hits shown as bright dots on the image on screen. It's a quick and effective way to train. At least it was great training for wild boar.

Need anything in trade?
Cheers,

what kind of velocity does the 140 grains list, curious how they would fit in with my current 130 gr, supply of 270s. maybe a pic of the box data listing vel. and drop. Oh and complements on that ammo belt, nice.
