Big Game Species Are Focus of SCI Foundation Auction Tags at 2013 Annual Hunters' Convention

Washington, DC Safari Club International Foundation (SCI Foundation) reaffirmed its commitment to big game conservation through the auctioning of eight big game "Conservation Tags" during the 2013 SCI Annual Hunters' Convention. Through the generosity of so many sportsmen and women, SCI Foundation was able to raise almost 200,000 dollars for big game conservation projects worldwide.

"We'd like to thank those who bid during the auction and the generous donors that offered dream hunts to be auctioned off," said SCI Foundation President Joe Hosmer. "The beauty of conservation tags is that nearly 90% of every dollar raised goes right back to the conservation of wildlife."

"SCI Foundation wants to spend every dollar we can for on-the-ground conservation. I know that every hunter understands that without verifiable science for big game species seasons will become shorter and opportunities to take our families afield will diminish," concluded SCI Foundation Executive Director Bob Benson.

SCI Foundation was able to auction off the following tags, raising a total of 196,500 dollars through the following auctions:
- Navajo Mule Deer: $10,000
- Arizona Rocky Mountain Elk: $35,000
- Newfoundland Caribou: $7,500
- Navajo Desert Bighorn: $29,000
- Wyoming Shiras Moose: $16,000
- Acoma Pueblo Rocky Mountain Elk: $18,000
- California Desert Bighorn: $45,000
- Zimbabwe Elephant and Cape Buffalo: $36,000

If you are interested in bidding on a conservation auction tag in the future, please plan to attend the 2014 SCI Annual Hunters' Convention in Las Vegas. The 2014 Convention will be held at the Mandalay Bay Resort, Feb. 5-8.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.
