Why’d the PH shoot also? That would always bug me if it wasn’t nescessary?

Would love a double some day..

Might be more of an issue with the camera lens used.

In some situations he has to sum up the whole situation before deciding to shoot. In this case he did the correct thing in my opinion.

It is in a open area so they have no cover. It is a large herd of elephants that has actually split into 3 smaller groups. The group on the far right already launches a charge before they even shoot. They stop this charge as soon as they get close to the second group. The Matriarch appears to be in the second group with a large calf as well as a small calf with her. Possibly why the first group then stopped the charge. Had the Matriarch in the second group initiated the charge, it could have been a different outcome.

All the cows are aware of the hunters. The PH has to make sure the bull is hit properly and immediately after that concentrate on what the cows are doing and act accordingly. He does this and they get away unscathed.

It is not the clients decision when or when not the PH should shoot, the PH needs to determine this and then act accordingly.

Had the bull not been hit properly and started to charge with the cows joining in it could have become messy in a hurry.

Big doubles are great but in this instance a big bolt action may have been a better choice.

My opinion from the footage anyway, I was not there.

By the looks of it, it was the PH's shot that killed the elephant. It looked like the client hit the elephant just not in the right place

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
