Arizona Toddler bitten by Rattlesnake

Its a good thing it wasn't a Mojave
A couple years ago a young girl in Nogale, AZ was bitten by a mojave in her yard while playing. I do not know whether she survived the incident. We have about 11 species of rattlers where I live in Southeastern AZ.

Growing up in Tucson Rattlesnakes were a common occurrence, we ran a cross them all the time while messing around out in the desert …
Are they the most deadly, no not close! Are they deadly? Well they kill a half dozen people every year! So yeah I’ve never been bitten by one and dont want to be as it’s not a pretty sight!

I guess I must be real lucky. I've lived in NV since 1989 and have never seen a rattler. I spend a fair amount of time out in the bush, too.
we see about 3 0r 4 a year close to the house here in Elko ,cnty , the story I related, took place in Idaho close to the city of rocks park.

Years ago, a much younger Datchew took the catamaran out to Rottnest Island off the coast of Perth to view the cute little quokkas (sp?) hopping around the island and eat amazing meat pies at the local bakery with a pair of local girls we met up with.

Afterward, we did some snorkeling on the reef there. Can't recall how far it was from the bakery at this point.
Upon returning, we had a close encounter with one of your king browns on the sandy path back to the boat. It looked like Indiana Jones left his bullwhip laying about.
Nobody was bitten but I had no idea how poisonous they were until a local filled me in.

It was that day that I learned about king browns and also fell in love with brown vegemite!
When I hunted Australia a king brown snake slithered between me and my guide when we were tracking Buffalo. That experience brought out some real pucker factor!

Have come across a few out hiking or hunting. But have seen more on golf courses than anywhere else in AZ.

I've had many close encounters with them in AZ. The scariest for me was when pulling weeds in my yard and a baby diamondback was curled up underneath where I couldn't see it. I literally put my leather gloved hand on it and by God's grace it didn't strike me! He quickly slithered away and I proved to myself that a white man CAN jump.

Here's the target for the NorthForks - 25yds off a bag, iron sights. Hunting leopards over dogs the range won't be more than that.

Flew in an airshow in Smyrna years ago, beautiful country.

Best regards,

Franco
