Does anyone know if you are allowed to take a suppressor for your rifle to South Africa. I am in the early planning stages of taking the family to SA. My two daughters can shoot my 708 with a suppressor on and I am wondering if I can take that rifle or if they will need to get use to shooting one of my other rifles.

Suppressors aren't an issue in SA, legal and not a controlled item. Did you mean .308?

Keep planning! :)

Thanks Royal27. It is a Remington 700 in 7-08. I use 110gr TTSX to keep the recoil down for my daughters. Might have to go slightly heavier for Africa, possibly 120gr or 140gr. They will only shoot impala, but it might end up being my back-up rifle for kudu.
I have an open-sighted Mauser 9.3x62 that I would like to take. Itccame from a farming family in Zimbabwe and i feel it would be fitting to take it back to Africa and shoot a kudu with it.

The outfitter I go with, has many suppressed rifles the clients can use. There is a 270 win., 30-06, and a 300 Win. Mag., all are sighted in dead on at 200 meters. I shot 3 anilmas with the 30-06. I fell in love with that rifle!! Enjoy planning your adventure, its one of the best parts in my opinoin. Kevin

Duh.... 7/08.... LOL

With the heavier bullet and good shot placement that would take a Kudu and your daughters will be fine with the heavier bullets. Guns don't recoil at all in Africa. :)

Love the idea of your taking the 9.3! That is proper!

Only issue I can think of is any country you may need to transit possibly having an issue.
ie. They are illegal in Canada.
Don't know if its an issue for you or even could be.

How about states that you are transiting through? Technically aren't you in possession of your firearm although it is in the checked baggage? If so then you land in Chicago on your way to/from or any other communist anti gun state. Could you be charged? That is what I would look into.

The 110TTSX bullet will work just fine. I wish I could put a can on my rifles or even just one. That bullet shoots a tiny little group with excellent speed, which is needed for them to preform, in my Tikka

I would go for the 120-140 grain bullets, but you have a good plan
