The powder shortage is getting a bit worrisome. I cannot find Reloder19, so if anyone knows where in Canada it is hiding, please share.

In the meantime, I did find 4000MR but it is not on my version of QL. Before I buy some, does anyone have a recipe for any 180gr in a 308 Norma Magnum? From the 300WM recipes I have seen I am thinking it will be within the same range at Reloder19, but I would like to avoid blowing up my nice new rifle.

Thanks

Forget the Reloder 19 question....found some...lol

But I am still curious about the 4000MR

@Pheroze

75gr is a max load (3,100fps) in the 300 Winchester Magnum (Alliant data).

I would start at about 65gr in your Norma and work up slowly from there.

Thanks,

Do you have any experience with 4000MR. I actually have not seen many nice things being said unfortunately

I have an 8-pounder in my stash, but have not used it in any load development yet.

Have you heard that it has a fairly narrow application? This is only my suspicion...but I am guessing it is like some other new powders that have been developed...really good in a narrow range of pressure/pressure curves, but not so good outside its wheelhouse.

I think that very accurately describes the types of complaints I have read.

I like and use 4000MR in 8x68s, .300WM & 6mm Remington. When it first came out I called Alliant for some burn rate information. The tech told me that he thought the burn rate was somewhere between RL-19 & RL-22.
I first tried it ion the 8x68s with 220gr SGK. I found it to be almost exactly the same as QuickLoad indicated for RL-19. I got good accuracy and decent velocity with it. My load for the .300WM is 180gr A-Frame @ 3.30 oal, CCI250 and 72.5gr's 4000MR. I started my load development at 71.5gr's up to 74.0gr's. I get 3,000fps with the 72.5grs. It also works great in the 6mm Rem with 105gr bullets.
Hope this helps and good luck.

@tarbe
That's what I thought about Hogdon superformance with the loading data available but with a lot of questions and research I got it to work SAFELY outside its narrow box. Why it only has data for lighter projectiles is beyond me as it has a slower burning rare than Re22 and ADI2213SC/H4831.

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
Boela Bekker.
