When I was hunting years and years ago on the south island, I stood on a pier in lake Wakatipu(sp?) waiting for our outfitter to pick us up. I looked down and the rainbow and brown trout swimming around were gigantic. Literally. I said something to one of the locals(being from East TN and fishing for trout in mtn streams) that this pier was a fisherman’s paradise. He told me they were all there because there was no fishing from the pier allowed, all folks did was feed them. I must say that thoughts of poaching did cross my mind.
