9.3x62

Darn thing shoots under an inch with those soft 270gr. Speers. Actually, the sized down .375" bullets: 235 gr.Speer, 225gr. Hornady and 300gr. Hornady an 300gr. Interbond all shoot under an inch along with the DWM 293gr. TUG's & 232gr. Norma Alaskan bullets. The elevation of successive groups of all of those different bullets, is about 4" at 100 meters. Like all of my .375's to date, there is no horizontal dispersion in the groups from just one sight setting. Thus, the 9.3 shoots all loads into a vertical group of 4". Incidentally, the Norma Alaskan 232gr., not the Oryx bonded, have a jacket thicknes sof 1/16". THAT's thick for a guilding metal bullet.
I have wondered if anyone else's 9.3x62 does this.
@Daryl S
That's what I love about my Whelen
At 100 anything from 225-275 will group into the same poi and all under or at 1".
The 310s with the same sight setting are dead centre at the same range so around 3" lower.
Throw anything down the tube and you know your fine and dint have to worry

Ruan shooting the Mauser 9.3x62 Musgrave hunting rifle the first time .
@Gert Odendaal
Now that boy has been taught well how to operate a bolt of the shoulder
Same as I taught my son
Cycle under recoil close bolt and back on sight. Pretty to watch.

After reading 14 pages on the virtues of the 9.3X62 I agree it's a grand old cartridge and very versatile
But
It ain't doing anything my Whelen isn't
So I'm just going to have to stick with the Whelen
Sorry folks somethings are just to good to mess with and the Whelen don't need to prove anything either
They will BOTH get the job done in even DG in the right hands of a good shot.
375 300gn 2400fps
9.3 320gn 2,200 fps
35 310gn 2,400 fps
All similar Sd and velocities and bullet weight ALL will kill game dead for all practical purposes.
Some may do it a fraction better
I know, blasphemy but that's life.

Yes Bob the 35 W is great , the big advantage of the 9.3x62 is factory ammo & rifles availability.

Thank you kindly Bob for this great compliment to Ruan my son shooting the 9.3x62 Musgrave . Yes, he really is a person who tend to the finer details of shooting a large bore hunting rifle.

He is quite comfortable in shooting the 404 Jeffery as well.

I absolutely agree with you Bob...to me it is not the caliber that matters ..to me it is how much confidence you have in the rifle you are able to shoot accurate and execute a well placed shot at a game animal.

That is the only criteria that make sense to me...shooting a .40 caliber big bore and flinching all the time just to show people you can is a useless idea...a shot through the guts of a buffalo due to you not able to execute a well placed shot with a .500Jeffery or .460 Weatherby is not a good idea....

You can kill a buffalo with a 9.3x62 caliber just as well when placing a well executing shot to the vitals since you do not fear to pull that trigger due to the unpleasant recoil of a heavy recoiling rifle ..

Feet, you are a shining example of a saying my father used to tell me, “fathers teach and hunters hunt. You are born a hunter or the teaching doesn’t take.”
