6 weeks to go to Zambezi valley

The prep starts properly!

6 weeks till my Zambezi Valley Buff hunt and the excitement is starting properly now! Air ticket for my dad is booked and I'm getting my gear organised.

Finally found some Norma PH softs for the .470NE, which is a relief as thought it may end up being solids all the way. We don't have all the choices here in Zambia. Decided on Hornady DGS for the solids with an opener of the Norma PH soft as an opener. Seem to both shoot nicely in my Krieghoff.

Done a bit of range shooting, but got a bit of Clay shooting planned for 2 weeks time to get the eye in a bit and then just a final couple of rounds with the .470NE to confirm its all working well.
The only part that needs a bit of work is sighting the 9.3x74R. battled to find a spot to shoot, but now found a great guy nearby who lets me shoot on his place! So final sighting and then all systems go!

Camera and Bino's packed, camelback packed, GPS (just for fun) and Video camera for the oldman to take some footage with.

I am so looking forward to some good fire time with my dad and a chance to hunt Buffalo!
Good wine will be packed, as will a GOOD cognac! For the rest I'm pretty sure the HHK guys will have it covered! - Suppose I'm lucky that I can take quite a bit of stuff as I will be driving down from Lusaka.

Good luck!! I was in zambezi valley last sept and took a great 41 inch dagga boy with 16 inch bosses. Had plenty to look over as well. I made sure to leave you at least one!! What outfitter/ph you with?

I didn't know you could pack alcohol on the flights.

Savage Hunter jumbo is driving from zambia to zim for this hunt............but you can pack alcohol in your checked luggage when flying, just make sure its well padded. putting it in the checked bags doesnt mean you can take more than your duty free allowance though. why dont you buy it at the airport duty free shops on departure, or if going to SA and it works with your travel schedule buy it there as the dollar to rand exchange rate is very good at the moment........

I have been trying to think of some gifts to bring Marius (KMG).
I thought about bringing a bottle of good Tequila because I doubted they have it there.
I've since found out that Tequila is being made in South Africa now as they imported the plants it's made from.

Have you considered a good trail camera and rechargeable batteries and a couple or memory cards? I was able to get a cuddeback, etc last year for about a hunded dollars, and almost everyone can use it, even if you already have one or two. nothing wrong with an adult beverage, though. I just think of things hard to get or what I would like to be given.

maybe but being made in SA they have probably screwed it up so take him one of those vintage brands of tequila my wife decided she liked when she was in aspen..........$90.00 usd a shot!!!

This is getting crazy! Bit more shooting this weekend and then we start the repack and last ammo purchases etc!

Getting crazy, with loads of work to distract me between now and then!

Just had a chat with the PH and seems we on the same page wrt ammo etc, so looking good! Coming weekend have a last bit of sighting to take care of on the .470NE and then its all systems go!

Next weekend is a biggie, as the last week before I leave (incl weekend) is going to be spent in Lusaka and not at home.........................so lots of packing and planning before then!

Guys in 2 weeks today I leave for the zambezi river from Lusaka and then the following day I cross into Zim and will be in camp!

Insane how fast 4 weeks went!

Scary though, cause there is still a lot to organise!
