500 schuler magazine

BTW, this rifle weighs 10.6lb.

I once owned a 11.2X72mm Schuler, by another maker, and it has a brass magazine spacer between the action bottom and the magazine to make room for more cartridges.

The semi - tubular follower. I notice that it is a little taller on the left so empty, it come right flush under the lip in the inside of the left rail.

Hello Huvius,
Thanks for sharing some detailed pictures of the Schuler work on the Mauser 98 to chamber to .500 Jefferey. Looks like some basic ingenious engineering.

Now just to find a gunsmith to make one!

I'd correct you in that Jeffery chambered their rifles to fit the 500 Schuler, but that wouldn't be gentlemanly... Ha!

Great photos. It’s a more basic arrangement than I expected. It can be top loaded through the ejection port? The tab does not look like it has much give in it. I couldn’t be a real pain and ask for a pic of the underside of the action and a measurement of the feed rail opening? Just curious to what they machine out for the clip.

Have these:

I'll have to take it apart again to measure the rail spacing but I thin it will closely match the width of the follower.

Thanks. those picture are exactly what I needed. It looks like they barely open the receiver up for width.

I always assumed that clip was a spring that would have a recess in the action like on a Westley Richards.

That is what I mentioned earlier - no cuts in the action at all for the clip.
There is certainly some opening of the rails but I think just enough for the case to come up midline, laying in the follower up against the left wall.
500 Schuler cases are quite cylindrical - .6189" at the base to .6071" at the shoulder - just .118" of taper overall.
Make your follower mimic that with the same taper simply cradling the cartridge.
The underside shot of the action above looks to have the same taper or close to it. I'll measure it next time I have it out - maybe a couple weeks though.

No stress on the measurements. I think I’ve got everything I need. This one is going to be much less work than the 404 Jeffery.

Looks like a very well thought out arrangement on getting the 500 to feed.

Hi Joshlee0518 (please let me know if you are fine being addressed like that),

Thought I would drop you a PM. It is super exciting to plan a hunt and we are more than happy to assist you. Have you given any thought yet to which species you would like to take?

What do you hunt usually and which weapons/calibers are you using?

Look forward to swapping experiences and ideas.

Happy hunting - Daniel

Is this rifle sold? If not what is the weight of it and do you know if there is enough difference in diameter between the 35W and the 9.3 to allow for a rebore to a 9.3x62 which is what I am after?
Thanks,
Gary (Just down the road in Springfield)
