Hello all, is it to hard to find 450 Rigby ammo, I googled few well known manufacturer like Hornady, Federal, Barnes, Swift no luck. there is a manufacturer like grizzly that I nevere heard of and they are out of stock. Before it is to late shall I switch to buy 404 Rigby rifle. since having a gun in the safe and not having luck to buy ammo is not fun.
Thanks

Not going find factory ammo unfortunately other than Grizzly. Not much different with 404. Hornady will be your only option there. Hendershots is a good source for either caliber. They custom load anything you need.

Maybe try Pendleton Ammo as well. They load 500J and 505 Gibbs. Not necceaarily cheap as first blush, but I bought 100 rounds of 505 Gibbs from them last year loaded in virgin Norma brass for less than I’d seen folks pricing just the brass for, so for harder to find big bore stuff, they seemed downright cheap. Ammo proved super consistent for ES/SD as well, which you’d expect from premium hand loaded ammo.

I also use Aria Ballistic Engineering for most all of my custom loads. They load most everything even if it's not listed on their site. I just ordered some 500J, 458 Lott, 404 j and 416 Rigby.

Hornady stopped making a few years ago. Nosler had everything on close out maybe 2023 when they stopped making. I don’t think Norma has put any in US market in a number of years. Federal, swift, Barnes I don’t think ever produced factory ammo for it? Hendershots is only source I know shows available.

With 450 Rigby brass availability will be biggest issue.

404 Jeffrey is where its at!!

Hendershots has 450 Rigby and with multiple load options. Brass is properly headstamped too. They offer fantastic service and their loads (no matter your needs) are always accurate and as advertised. I use them a lot and they’ve loaded and helped me out with loads for 416 Remington, 505 Gibbs, 500 A2, 600 OK, 700 AHR with no issue at all.

i think anyone buying a big hire caliber other than the 2-3 most popular needs to invest in hand loading. Even with popular calibers like 375 H&H hand loading gives you way more options.

It’s very easy to get setup and the process is actually quite straight forward. For me it makes the hunt way more satisfying when I’ve loaded the ammo. I strongly encourage it.

There’s 100 pieces of 450 Rigby brass listed on gun broker right now. You can buy that and then send it somewhere and have it loaded to your preference.

The 416 Rigby case is the parent for many newer rounds, like the 450 Rigby, 338 Lapua, the 460 Weatherby and many others.

Although properly Head stamped ammo and brass are currently hard to find, it will likely be produced in a few more years. As long as new rifles are being produced, someone will always eventually make ammo or brass.

The easiest way to make suitable brass is to neck up the 416 Rigby in a sizing die. Next easiest is to remove the magnum belt on 460 Weatherby cases, then resize.

If you aren't willing to go to all that trouble, the 416 Rigby and 458 Lott are both fine rounds that are easy to find.

I 110% agree with this. Just for purposes of obtaining brass (with the right headstamp which is hard to find for some of the big bores) and a good starter load/variety pack to test out some different bullets is why I favor Hendershots so much.

After your first order, you can reload with your fire-formed brass and you’ll know which bullets you’ll want to use for reloads as well.

Hand loading for 375 and up is the best way to go, hands down.

@375Fox Any insight as to why that is?

Everyone that owns one raves about it and I understand limited runs for niche calibers like .416Ruger, .275Rigby head stamp and even .257Roberts. For the life of me though I can’t ever remember .450Rigby being see in stock.

Do you mind me asking what auction you are referencing? I'm not in the market for any of those rifles...just curious.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
Gents, if you book and pay your deposit before the end of this year , you can have the bigger cull package for the 2026 price! https://www.africahunting.com/threa...griffiths-safaris-starting-at-us-2-560.96285/
