I picked up some hammerdown for introducing my kids to an 1886. Personally I have only hunted elk with 350 grain Buffalo Bore which are incredible. They are currently in stock and available directly from Buffalo Bore’s website. About a dollar more a round but you get a heck of a lot more energy and flatter shooting.

I figured Hammerdown will be nicer on kids shoulders while confidently dropping backyard deer. if you beat us to it, let me know how the bullet performs.

Do you remember the MV of those Buffalo Bore 350 grain rounds? I would like to compare them to my 350 grain loads for my 1886 45-90.
I have loaded some North Fork 350 SS with 60 grains of N133 and they were used to regulate my 45-90 DR. The winter weather has kept me from chronographing the load, but I figure it should be over 2100 fps MV.

The barrels are 26 inches on 1886 and on DR. MV on each should be close to the same.

Excellent! I remember some of your earlier 45-90 posts now. You are way ahead of me with regards to ‘more powerful leverguns‘. Mine are still in the daydream stage.

I am curious too, I use the old Remington 405gr soft point chronographed at 1720fps. Haven’t gotten an elk, but works wonderfully on deer.
