375H&H reloading

70 grains RL-15, my 375 is shooting well with 300 grains,AF and Barnes TSX. Federal 215M primers.

I know a guy who hunted deer once in a while with his 458WM, just to be able to shoot it on live game here. However, for the deer he used 5744 to develop what he called a “bowling ball” load. LOL!
Hahaha, that would be fun. I have 3 or 4 casting molds for 375 caliber for my 38-55 lever action. I could down load and shoot the cast bullets in my H&H

I wish I had more R-15. My rifle shot 68.0gr and the 300gr AF very well
Not sure of 15 but 15.5 is avalable Link. I have heard lot of good things and similarities about 15.5 and some reports indicate it to be more temperature stable.

23gr. Unique was the load with the RCBS 250gr. FN GC I used in my .375 M602 BRNO for 3 position shooting in 1973 until I built a .308 match rifle. The cast load (no filler nor wad) held 1 1/2" at 100 yds. with the pop-up peep sight. With a scope it would likely have been under an inch. I made sharpshooter with that rifle & load, one category up from marksman(the start). LOL
Recently(10yrs ago), I shot some 300gr. GC FN's from my .375/06IMP with 13gr.(I think) Trailboss. They chrono'd 1,380fps and would have made a good deer load, shooting 1 1/2" with scope set at 4X. Might have been 13 1/2gr.- but full case to the base of the neck, where the base of the bullet was. Full case with no compression. I suspect a .375 H&H would shoot similarly. A no-recoil go-pow load.

What powders and charges have you tried with the Speer 235s?
I've gone two ways with this project.

1. SR 4759 for a light load. While this is a top powder with cast bullets in both of my 375 H&H rifles. It just isn't getting the job done with this bullet, so I've decided to just use it for cast bullets (270 grain with lube and gas check). 3 MOA is about average in both a Remington 798 and a Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 while the cast bullets are sub-2 MOA.
2. Vita Vouri (sp?) 140 powder. This powder needs to burn at fairly high pressure, but it easily gets good ballistic uniformity with an average velocity of 2,726 fps, ES 36, and an SD of 14. 2 MOA accuracy is a day in and day out expectation with the load. Remington 9 1/2 magnum primers spark the load

For me load 2 with the VV 140 powder is about right for the 235-grain Speer bullet. Recoil is mild for a 375 H&H and while the accuracy is not as good as the 300 grain bullets, it is easily capable of most game in the US well past 200 yards. I had hoped to use the load in Africa again for this year's safari for the plains game, but I ended up using the 300 grain Barnes bullets for a Cape Buffalo, a Zebra, and a Wildebeest.

Good luck with all of your efforts with the 235 grain bullet.

My load with a 300-grain Barnes STX bullet has proven to be a buff killer a couple of times. It's a very good bullet. Weight retention is almost 100 percent.

My load uses Varget powder with a Federal 215 magnum primer in either Norma or Hornady cases. Velocity is 2,480 fps at what looks to be fairly low pressure with easy extraction and no indication of brass flow into the ejector slot. At 2,480 fps (5 shot average over a chronograph) the mathematical energy figure is: 4,098 foot pounds. Accuracy in my 375 H&H Mauser actioned Remington 798 rifle is just sub-1 MOA for multiple 3 shot groups at 100 yards.

Good luck with your project.
I’m a copperhead, Barnes is my primary bullets along with some Hornady CX. A expanding solid hollow point LOL. Lead core are my plinking ammunition.

2,480fps with a 300gr. in the .375H&H is a very light load compared to what it can do. If you are happy with it, great. The original 300gr. load of 1912 was 2,400fps even. With THAT load, it gained it's very excellent reputation.
My .375 '06 IMP does 2,472fps with Sierra, Norma and both Hornady 300's. One finger extraction, Mark 10 Mauser. For me, this is a moose, elk or deer load, however, I'm too old to hunt moose or elk alone, now.

I have good luck with H4350 and 300 grain A Frames just below the max load listed in the Swift manual. Slightly compressed load and returns very consistent velocities. I trim to minimum case length and give them a decent crimp with a factory crimp die.

I just loaded some with H-4350 and hoping to test them this weekend.
Need to try some 270gr AFs, but Ill likely use AA-4064, as it has done very well with other 270 and 300gr bullets.

Noah,
I might be interested in the 470 Woodleigh Softs if the price is right for the entire lot. Are you planning on going to the Tulsa Gunshow in November? If so, perhaps we could meet up.
