30-06 Heym/Westernfield

PM me the serial number, I have some contacts at Heym in Germany who may be able to track down some history....

My 'old customized 1903 Springfield groups very well, as long as the bullets are lead core. It doesn't seem to like mono metal like Barnes. I haven't tried 125gr, but 150, 165, and 180 all work well. Getting good results with Accubonds 165gr.

Here is a recent group from the '03 and load.

This is a very old post but I just picked up one of the 724A rifles. If possible I’d like to learn more about it. The serial number is 188630.

Thank you in advance for any an all help with this.

There just doesn't seem to be a lot of information on these Wards/Heyms

Yes I can agree with that. I was lucky enough to wonder into an auction site Thursday. An have always wanted a Mannlicher stocked gun. I thought I was just getting an old 30-06. Lucky me it has some history with it.

Rob404, was Mark able to get you some information from the serial number?

I still just chuckle at the thought of a heym being sold at a wards ! Ahh i grew up in the wrong time
And the fact that they sold for about 100.00. After I posted a pic of my Heym one sold on Gunbrooker for a 1000.00 maybe one of the members here grabbed it,
I had it at the range today shooting some 180s Damn accurate

No I did some scrounging but could never find any information on the Heym

My Heym seems to shoot 180s pretty good but I think all 06s like 180s I'll check on my load data for you

180 grain may possibly be the best bullet for the .30'06. It works on bigger critters and doesn't destroy as much eating meat on the smaller ones as the lighter weights will at times. I have killed a lot of game with my '06 using 180's.

I just saw Budsgunshop.com has both the guide gun and the African for $1150. FWIW - I bought both and decided to use the Guide gun - I restocked it in a Bell and Carlson stock and I added the Alaska arms floor plate to add a round. I wanted the shorter barrel as I will use a suppressor. I wont go lower than $1100, but I will ship it and no sales tax.

Let me know if you are interested
