For those of you considering an African bow hunt for 2020, it's time to make your plans... There are many factors that can determine a bow hunter's chances for opportunity and success, including the size of the hunting properties, the management plan in place, and the hunting pressure on those properties just to name a few key factors that play the biggest roles. However, there is no denying that one of those factors also includes the moon phase which can determine the amount of time during the daylight that animals will spend on their feet in search of food, water and minerals. For that reason, our most serious bow hunters prefer to plan their safaris around the new (dark) moon phases of the driest months of each season to stack all of the available advantages in their favor.

The dark (new) moon phases for 2020 in Southern Africa are as follows:

May 22

June 21

July 20

August 19

September 17

Although we can successfully host our bow hunting guests anytime of the season, we generally recommend that our bow hunters plan their hunts between the months of May through September if at all possible. And, if you can plan to take advantage of the darker phases of the moon, all the better.... We suggest timing it so the majority of your hunting days fall somewhere within that 10-day window before, during, and after the new moon. Feel free to contact us anytime with your bow hunting questions...!

Best of luck and safe travels to all of those hunting this season or to those who have their safari booked for next season!

First of Oct new moon and cheaper flights perfect time to kill

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.
