Hello:

Just a quick heads up - Buffalo Arms has Bertram Brass 11.2x72 Schuler brass back in stock. If you are lucky enough to have an 11.2 Schuler, you probably already know that brass is unobtainium. I am not sure how long they will have it in stock so, if you need it, you might want to give them a call sharpish.

It is a wonder that so many shells suddenly appear. Normally they are extremely hard to find or not at all.

Do you also own a rifle of this caliber?

I'm thinking of having one built by a private gunsmith I know in Scotland. My past experience with British/European guns has taught me to secure a supply of brass and bullets first.

I own an original rifle of this caliber built by A.Schüler in 1923. It is an interesting collector's item, but I would not have one built in 2024. I once hunted with it in Africa and even shot a buffalo. The cartridge 11,2x72 Schüler remains a compromise for unmodified Mauser 98 actions and magazines, with all the disadvantages that come with it, especially the rebated rim. Ballistically, it also offers no advantages compared to cartridges of the same caliber class, but I think you know all that.

But it's interesting. Life's too short to hunt with boring rifles. If I wanted to do that, I'd get an old post-64 model 70 in .458 for not much money. I'm sure it would give good service. Also, I was a cartridge collector when I was a kid and I just like hunting with classic rifles in classic calibers. My last trip to South Africa, I took a 1911, Rigby Mauser in .400/.350. Four one-shot kills on plains game. The old calibers still seem to work.

I just saw Budsgunshop.com has both the guide gun and the African for $1150. FWIW - I bought both and decided to use the Guide gun - I restocked it in a Bell and Carlson stock and I added the Alaska arms floor plate to add a round. I wanted the shorter barrel as I will use a suppressor. I wont go lower than $1100, but I will ship it and no sales tax.

Let me know if you are interested
