Not to pile on here Tigris, but you have me a bit confused...

This may not be 100% true but I also think that being a doctor is seen as one of those jobs that you do for the money.

Doesn't everyone do their job for money? I must make money to pay my bills. The grocery store wants money when I buy food. The utilities want payment for their services. Without money I can't pay for stuff that I need/want.

Perhaps you meant that the MD's do their job for "lots" of money?

Look at the good Sgt's. post. The amount of time, money and study that goes into earning an MD is impressive. They are among the cream of the academic (and skills) crop. Think of it in football terms. You play HS football and you are good. You get to play D-1 football in college and you excel. Next step, NFL. Big payday (although limited years in playing the game).

Surely you don't want this:

Thus, new medical professionals are very money motivated.

Yes, they are. But I have met many that aren't. A good few are really just in it for the good of the people that they serve. Sometimes, in my opinion, at their own financial detriment.

If you were dropped in the ocean with a couple of cinderblocks around your neck, you would want to become a damned good swimmer. Consider that the MD finishing their residency/fellowship might be 250-500k or so in debt.

A recent review of MD and others debt load:

https://www.whitecoatinvestor.com/average-medical-school-debt/

Medicine needs to be a more philanthropic profession.

The following will be assuming that this is the US.

Generally here, if you want a service or product, you will pay a fee for it.

Where does the money come from if total philanthropy?

Again, an MD here still has bills to pay. Safeway and Costco want money for their goods. The utilities want money for their services. Where does the MD get the money to pay said bills? MD has to pay bills. Their is no click button on Costco.com or Utilities.com that I have seen that state I have provided X amount of philanthropic services to the community and therefore I should receive X amount of discount on my bill....

The only way around this is a massive tax increase, sort of like some European nations. I'm personally not OK with that, but you may be. So be it.

If you go to your local ED, you can't be denied service, despite your ability to pay. I have worked with a hospital system (regional) that provided same-day surgery and anesthesia fees for patients at no charge providing that I charged nothing. These were the slip in the crack cases (not covered by Medicaid, read not a US citizen). Did it and didn't give a rip

Philanthropy can happen, maybe you just need to dig a little.

Zim, God bless your sister. Pediatricians are the least appreciated, worst paid MD's out there. Tell her to keep up the good fight as long as tolerable.

Yea those doctor comments weren't well thought out.

Also, I was shooting the breeze with some online friends who are fairly liberal and the topic of worst presidents came up and Trump was never mentioned. The ones that were include...

Andrew Jackson: The Trial of Tears is unforgiveable by any standards
Woodrow Wilson: Shaping America's foreign policy for the worst
Dwight D. Eisenhower: Organizing the coup on Iran that would turn them into one of our worst enemies for the sake of oil. The ultimate example of something coming back to bite you in the ass.

I'm not big on Memes in this thread, but....

And for you old farts who don't get the joke, watch this. :D

OMG, Maxine Waters is such a moron.:ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO:

tbh, I'm quite scared of what's gonna happen with Iran. I have the feeling that the killing of General Qassim is going to be the boulder going down on the camel's back.

An American is killed. The American embassy anteroom is broken into and destroyed. All within the week.

The commander who is ultimately responsible for these events shows up in Iraq to plan further attacks and is killed. Perhaps storming the embassy was the boulder that broke the camel's/Soleimani's back!

We already know that giving the Iranian leaders $150B in appeasement doesn't work.

What if Soleimani was the real de facto leader of Iran, that everyone including the Ayatollahs kowtowed to? Perhaps the Iranian people will be free sooner than most thought.

Either way, something is gonna go down. I'm just hoping that no one's dumb enough to support a straight-up WWIII.

Don't believe all you hear from the MSM. They are just promoting fear mongering.

Remember how the MSM went nuts with Trumps "Short and Fat", "Rocket-man" and "My button is bigger than yours and mine works" comments? Remember how the MSM was concerned this was the end.

Remember how the MSM went nuts when Trump launched 50 cruise missiles into Syria while dining with Xi? Remember how horrible that was.

Remember how Trump putting tariffs on China was the end of the world financially and we would go into depression?

Remember how removing our troops from Syria was going to cause wholesale destruction to the Kurds?

Remember how Trump destroyed a battalion of Russians in Syria and that was the end of the world? Oh yea! The MSM refused to deal with that since Trump was supposed to be controlled by Putin.

The Iranian people are protesting in the streets. The Ayatollahs are hanging on, but their time is running out. Iran's involvement in Yemen with the Houthi's is waning. Have you heard anything about Hezbollah causing problems in Lebanon lately. No you haven't because Iran's influence and money is running out. Iran's sphere of influence is shrinking. Not increasing.

Trump has already said he will wreck destruction if Iran retaliates.

I don't know what will happen next, but I am sure you won't have to deal with WWIII!

Hakuna Matata!

None of this would have been a problem if Carter has just “rained fire” on Iran.

And let’s not forget when Reagan sunk 3/4 of their Navy, they were very quite afterwards.

@Chukar - To be clear, doctors are not necessarily the sharpest knives in the drawer. What they are is dedicated to their craft. What it takes to be a doctor is lots and lots of effort, lots of time as an undergrad and med student with one's ass planted firmly in one's chair, studying. And yet more time studying as a resident (and a fellow, if one wishes to become a specialist). According to my sister, residency was WAY more difficult than med school was.

That said, doctors should be free to make as much money, or as little, as suits them. Just like I am free to do that.

Maybe Carter should have let me into Iran in late 1979/early 1980 (with a bunch of my friends). We were in the area...just waiting to get into final position.

Sound like a stupid wish? Perhaps. But my point is, things tend to simmer and escalate when not dealt with in a timely fashion. This pot's been boiling for 40 years.

Unless you think there is some miracle negotiation that will defuse (that $150bn didn't), we might ought to be glad this is coming to a head (maybe).

.

I'm glad you didn't, you would have died for sure and thousands of your comrades too.
Persians are a complete different housenumber than Arabs.
The wars of the USA often do not end with the desired result and do not guarantee to the official date.
Sometimes a victory is only a fata morgana, behind which the catastrophe already lurks.

Foxi, we aren't Germany or any other European country. We have the military industrial complex. They don't want conflicts or wars to end. The goal is to maintain instability in certain regions of the world. That keeps the money flowing, the military bases open in each senator's state, people working in defense plants and the politicians in power. It's a system that's been in place since WW2. As far as the Persians? They'd fold in a week like the Iraqis. All you'd have to do is turn off their cell phones. It all falls back on "The strong take from the weak, but the smart take from the strong". If you think the Persians are smarter than we are, I have some beachfront property in Arizona for sale, cheap.
For more on who's smarter, here's some info on Stuxnet.
