My .500 Jeffery wish list build MEMBERS opinions are welcome

I would not use an aluminum follower

Any reason you did not leave it to include a comp[lete barrel band?
I have had less than perfect results with lugs silver soldered to barrels without a notch or a complete band with high recoil rifles.
Your response in regards to the barrel band recoil lug makes more sense than silver solder the recoil lug itself to the barrel...Thank you kindly..I will coming Monday make the barrel band recoil lug ...I have to repeat all these processes since there is another 500Jeffery and a 404 Jeffery I need to complete these items for them as welll :ROFLMAO:

Ivor I really would like people to explain why they are suggesting spesific procedures I need to do OR not to do...like you mentioning that I do not use a aluminum follower..

Rationale for using a Aluminum follower:

...there will be 3x 500Jeffery rounds in the magazine box...they are combined a heavy load to push up when cycling the rifle..it makes sense to give an advantage to the magazine spring to push up less weight ...aluminum is as strong as steel in ratio...it is easier to machine using paraffin when milling it. detonation takes place in the chamber and the aluminum will not be in contact with the hot gases in the rifle chamber.

Blue Flyer, I tried to convinced my Mentor Johan Greyling that I use a barrel band as a second recoil lug in the rifle stock.. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
He mentioned it will not look clean if there is a second piece of steel band on the barrel ....the only way I can make him possibly change his point of view is if I can get photos of vintage /old .500 Jeffery rifles that used a barrel band type recoil lug ......:D:D:D

The members with the old /original 500Jeffery /Schuler rifles..did the manufacturers of these original 500Jeffery/Schuler rifles make use of a barrel band type recoil lug>????

Aluminium is "sticky" in contact with steel.....
No 500 jeff rifle I have seen has this. All steel weigth is not a problem

Anodizing as well as powder coating in a stainles steel color is the way to go..Ivor I told the members in the begining of this thread..I am building a 500 Jeffery differently than other gun rifle builders usually do it..I am not just copying another rifle builder`s rifle he build...

I have the time and resources to build it the way I want to build the 500Jeffery...aluminum follower being one of my methods and rationale . There are a lot of thing I am agreed with you, but there will be things I will do that people/you will not agree with me..

You have a vast knowledge base in regards to dangerous game rifles , hunting ..I do not have your knowledge , fortunately I do have a person like Johan Greyling and even him and me do not see eye to eye every time

Still I really appreciate your opinion very much Ivor..you are one of very few knowledgeable Professional Hunters , Gun owner Hunter that really have a lot of knowledge here in South Africa . This is the reason I began this tread ..to have access to members like you and all the members who part take in this 500Jeffery thread...it makes my choices easier in a complicated building process...

Ivor , what is your opinion in regards to a second barrel band type recoil lug instead of silver soldering a recoil lug I already completed to the barrel???

Will the second barrel band recoil lug be in contrast to the clean lines of the 500 Jeffery, since I am already making a barrel band swivel stud???

I will make a 1/4 rib V-express sight ....will look at how a second barrel band will look on the barrel tomorrow when I complete the work on the lathe...

A friend of mine will do the checkering ....I will discuss the lpi options with Volkmar.

UPDATE OF THE LIST:
Members, here are the components of a .500 Jeffery build:
1X Magnum heavy 24" inch barrel
Barrel band Swivel stud
1x Mauser 98 action ( receiver/bolt/magazine box/bottom metal)
1x American Black Wall Nut blank
Butt Magazine 3x 500Jeffery rounds
Pacmyer recoil pad
V-express rear sight 1X 75 METER flip up spring tension distance indicators
Ghot ring
One piece front sight barrel band with a flip down night sight
Steel skeleton grip cap
Black Ivory forend
Alkenet root oil rifle stock finishing

That's one of the advantages of living in Germany. Mauser rifles are almost being given away here because most hunters aren't interested to hunt with the old rifles anymore. On the other hand, you have to travel quite a long way before you can put a .500 cartridge to good use. That's where living in South Africa definitely has the advantage.
I'll definitely keep you all updated on the build. It may take a little while, though. I usually work on it during my night shifts whenever I don't have much else to do. In my free time, I have a few other projects that need my attention—like my wife and kids, for example
Horbs, it would be great if you can share some of the progress you have made with your Schuler 500 build?????

I am not able to make progress at this stage ...we have electricity outage .....it is one of the challenges we always have to deal with here in South Africa ....as soon as the electricity is restored I will be completing the barrel band swivel stud item..

Noah,
I might be interested in the 470 Woodleigh Softs if the price is right for the entire lot. Are you planning on going to the Tulsa Gunshow in November? If so, perhaps we could meet up.
