Ruger ceasing production of Hawkeye

With them discontinuing the Hawkeye Series, I don't believe there are any commercially available American made control round feed rifles currently being manufactured anymore.

Truly atrocious times we live in.

But is what what the majority of new rifle buyers care about?

Both Kimber and Montana are still in production. So not quite.

America is also the a major producer of custom Mauser actions. Not sure what the total production is compared to what Isny is making, and some one off custom shops in Germany and the UK.

I think the problems they are stuck in the middle. Their highest end stuff isn’t nice enough to compete with other high end products and their lower end is either not as good a similarly priced products or not the cheapest.

I know it is easy to blame bean counters or say they should still make guns we all personally like. But the fact is they exist in order to turn a profit. If none of these lines are making money they have to do something.

The gun business is a tough one. You’re selling extremely durable goods. Unless you are sought after by collectors it is tough to find ways to sell more of the same guns. I have a red hawk and a Blackhawk, they will both last much longer than I will. I love them but why would I ever buy another one just to have two of the same thing.
I guess I never asked myself that question when I was buying flat top rugers back when I was in a Perfect Packing Pistol phase.
Especially the ones with factory stag grips.

This may be the sign of a company circling the drain, on its way out. I don’t think the Ruger American rifle can sustain the entire company. On the contrary, it may be a strategic move similar to the new Coca Cola maneuver in the 1980s. By removing the model from the market for a period of time, it will stir up demand, and they can re-introduce it at a higher price point and, like the reintroduced originalCoca-Cola, which swapped out high fructose corn syrup for cane sugar, they may be able to “economize” some of the expensive production features without a backlash from consumers, who will just be happy to have them back for purchase in one form or another.

Ruger going to crap really sucks. They started msking cheaper guns and let off making the good ones .I have a bunch of r77s mostly 338 win mags a few 264 win mags and a 7 ren mag and 243 .I have used rugers a long time really good guns .

My world is falling to pieces, i bought my first Ruger 77 in 1970 a 243 with the funny dog leg bolt handle i have12 Rugers a No1 in 303, a Red label 12 g, 77 tang safety in 243 the original from 1970 & 7x57, 77 mk2 in 260 Rem, 350 Rem Mag, 30/06 6,5x55, & a 6mm ARC & 6.5 Grendel built on 7.62x39 mk2 actions & A BOAT PADDLE STOCK 7.62X39. i think Bill Ruger would turn over in his grave if he knew what is happening at Ruger. The bean counters ruin a lot of iconic company's , Remington is gone , Winchester as we know it is gone & now Ruger, next we will have to buy shit from China. Corporate greed & stupid management destroys American companys, only my opinion yours may differ.

The president was just on Guntalk radio…

Frankly it doesnt sound like anything ‘paused’ will come back

Models dropped TOGETHER added up to only 5% of sales.

Decision had nothing to do with Beretta.

Thats a summary of what I heard

That’s almost unbelievable. All the primary models (except 10/22) I’d associate with Ruger 77s, No. 1’s, revolvers account for less than 5% of sales. Really shows things have changed.

Bought two new ruger m77's last year, ended up taking both to Africa. My current favorite rifle the Alaskan 9.3x62 that shoots 1.2 inches at 200 yards, and a beatiful and accurate m77 stainless International in 6.5x55 swede. Nothing but great things to say.

I NEED MORE!!

I wonder what their company income ratio is. Maybe they’re not sitting on a bunch of cash and they know the Ruger 77 needs a retool to be a good gun. I’ve had multiple rigger 77 that I’ve had to go back to the factory. I’ve never owned one of their double action pistols. In my mind, a Ruger 77 was always kind of a cheap rifle. It was always kind of everything that a Remington or a Winchester was not. I never had one that had a good barrel that would shoot well. I’ve owned three or four of the modern iteration in normal calibers.
Needing a retool and not wanting to spend money was my first thought. The worst action I’ve ever felt was one of the new Ruger 9.3 Alaskans. I closed the bolt entirely and could push the bolt back and forth, sloppy fit on the lugs. Never felt that before, and the whole sliding of the bolt felt really gritty.

Shame to see them go but I have not been impressed with their recent production.

The Italians are on the beach ! 25 percent bought !

I always had affection towards Ruger 77, and no 1, and GP100, never had opportunity to buy them
Now it is all gone. Maybe once on 2nd hand market.

Sad news.

Beretta empire.

When the empire strikes, it is not good.

Mauser empire: Rigby, Mauser, Blaser, Sauer. The cheapest CRF rifle comes at 14k, after CZ is phased out. Buy CRF DWM Mauser 98.

Berretta empire: berretta, Sako, TIkka, Holland and Holland, uberti, stoeger, benelli, chapuis, rws, norma, geco, rotweill, result: no more Sako rifles in caliber larger then 375 H&H. Buy H&H.

I dont particularly like that Ruger is dropping several lines.. but.. frankly, something had to happen..

In 2025 their net sales were roughly $540M including revenues from Marlin and Glenfield.. and they took a net loss of $4.4M... the year prior revenue was about the same (just slightly lower).. and they took a net loss of almost $8M..

Either someone can come in and infuse cash and push them to do some course correction..

Or.. Ruger would have ceased to exist in a fairly short period of time.. no one can survive with those sort of losses against those levels of revenue for a prolonged period..

And if someone is going to buy into them.. thank God its actually a firearms company, and not just another band of private equity cats with Wharton MBAs and no real understanding of the firearms industry or firearms consumers like we have seen when Freedom Group tried to consolidate industry with their acquisition of Remington, Marlin, etc.. At the end of the day, Beretta is both the oldest firearms manufacturer on the planet (formed in 1526) and the biggest (almost $3B in revenue projected this year)...

If someone has to bail out Ruger or we lose the entire brand forever.. I'd rather it be Beretta than most of the other options..
