I have done this recently with .458 Ammo to other forum members here. I used UPS. Followed their instructions to the letter, and learned that they have no idea what their own criteria are. The website says that you cannot ship live ammo via a UPS store, and that you must take it to a “service center”. I did that, and was told at the service center they do not accept any packages, ammunition or otherwise, and to take it to a UPS store. Explained their ammunition policy (from the website), and the shipping center said that didn’t make sense, and to try it. They said if the UPS Store knows it is ammunition (packaged with appropriate markings) scanned it and gave you a receipt, it’s their problem now. I called UPS to ask about this, explained it was live ammunition……and was told to take it to a UPS store, multiple times. So I did that. The first shipment, I told them it was a small quantity of live ammunition, they didn’t care. The next two, I just dropped it off with the required label, and no issue. I did put the required diamond on all packages to be safe. The other option is to pay the $20+ to have it picked up from your porch…which I would not do. I’ve had UPS leave a signature required $2k rifle on my driveway in the rain (confirmed on camera), and USPS drop a double rifle, signature required on my FFL’s front porch, both within the last two months. There seems to be little scrutiny, and even less due diligence from all of the shippers these days. Good Luck!
