Magna-Porting a Double Rifle?

I don’t think there are ANY AH double rifles owners willing to find out! :)
The ports on Mag-Na-port are angled upwards. I have shot my 458 Lott which just has the two trapezoidal ports angled up, standing next to or very near various PH’s, game rangers and trackers with zero issue: either blast or noise no more than a non Mag-na-ported rifle. I suppose there is some scenario where a tracker or PH could be near the end of the muzzle of your rifle but I for one would never be anywhere near the muzzle of a hunters rifle lest I get a hole blasted through my skull.

Most do not know or even distinguish the difference between Mag-na-porting and traditional porting which I hate traditional porting btw due to the horrific noise and muzzle blast. That’s not the case with Mag- na-porting. Most just lump it with standard muzzle brakes or look upon it as defacing the rifle and ruining it.

It has been done on side by side double rifles. Whether it affects accuracy I have no personal experience with this other than bolt action rifles which has zero effect.
Since you’ve had a positive view of Magna Porting, perhaps you might consider having your Heym ported yourself. I’d be genuinely interested to hear how you find it.

Before everyone goes bananas in the comments I’m not considering doing this!

I’m just curious if it’s a thing, and if not why it isn’t if it works on a regular rifle or pistol?

Hell no! You’re too funny.

I have acquired a couple nice used big bore rifles, both Mag-na-ported at great prices probably due to the Mag-na-porting no doubt. I wouldn’t have it done though, I’m fine without it.

But if I were a DG PH, and I wanted an edge by being able to deliver a rapid 2nd shot faster, maybe I would consider it.

Although there is no way on God’s green Earth I’d do that to a DR, I have Mag-Na-Ported a .475 Linebaugh revolver. I won a Mag—Na- Port job at a raffle and decided to to use it on the revolver. I just had a single port on each side done. I haven’t noticed much, if any increase in muzzle blast. As far as recoil, muzzle jump was slightly reduced, but to a degree it was noticeable. The double ports would probably be more noticeable on both fronts.

Mate, I’ll not stop there, I’ll have the whole enchilada. Thread the barrel, mount two bazooka-style suppressors, and replace the buttstock with a bazooka stock.

I can’t help but imagine the impact you’ll have on your DG clients. They may be over the moon or you may never see them again.

I guess there’s only one way to find out…

You’re a better man than me. Below was the first and last time I shot my FA 475 Linebaugh. After 5 rds that was it! Fine revolver but sold it. I’d rather shoot my 458 Lott 100 times in a session than shoot that 475 Linebaugh again!

Aww, I came here for the pics :ROFLMAO:

I honestly don't know how to reply to this thread. If anyone is thinking about doing this to their double... please don't :E Puppy Dog Eyes:.

With a left right barrel, you are going to have the rifle recoiling with a lot of twist. You can only port the outside. If you port upwards only, you will still have twist. Probably be difficult to regulate and possibly uncomfortable to fire.

On another note, please remove yourself from the forum and go to forums which cater for macho wanna be soldiers with tupperware guns and leave rhe men of taste in peace

Sorry couldn’t find the A&N with the ported barrels, I think I even know the guy who owned it in Australia ?

Did find a pic of a different one !

If you directing this to me, much of this discussion has been tongue in cheek, nobody is going to be Mag-na-porting their DR. The OP was just asking.

It has been done in the past. As to why I’m not certain, perhaps for some perceived need for a slight reduction in recoil and less muzzle rise.

The only advantage to Mag-na-porting in large caliber bolt rifles is primarily reduced muzzle rise, not much recoil reduction. I’m not an engineer, have no idea how it would work on a DR.

Mike Fell’s custom 500 Jeffery bolt action which recently sold at auction was built by Sterling Davenport and it was Mag-na-ported. Perhaps as a desirable feature due to reduced muzzle rise. Didn’t look like he used it anyways.

IPSC has various handgun divisions including a “limited” division because porting gives a competitive advantage in recoil and muzzle rise. Clearly this bled over into rifles used for hunting and competition.

It may seem like I’m a proponent of Mag-na-porting because I own a couple of big bore bolt rifles that already had it done. It’s not something I would deliberately choose to have done because I do not find it necessary for a hunter. I wouldn’t dare molest my Heym Martini Express 416 Rigby in such a way.

My personal interactions with men in my age bracket from both SA and former Rhodesia have always been very positive because we share similar military/LE backgrounds and thinking but I guess there are exceptions.
